Again, More Like This...

Mopar brings us a most excellent DGC addition:

Sheriff: Dead motel robber was going to rape clerk

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - A man is dead after the motel clerk he tried to sexually assault and rob early Monday morning fought back and killed him, deputies said.Investigators say 43-year-old Vincent Carson of Orangeburg entered Days Inn motel at 133 Plumbers Rd. near I-20 and North Main St. sometime before 6:00 a.m.

As the female clerk went into the breakfast room to prepare breakfast, she found Carson waiting inside. The victim said Carson held a knife to her throat and said "this is a robbery." Investigators said when her attacker slipped the knife into his pants pocket to begin tying her up with plastic ties, the woman pulled a handgun from under her shirt, turned and fired into the man's chest at point blank range.

This is one of the better DGC stories I've read. It's quite sympathetic to the victim here - and by victim, they mean the woman who was assaulted and forced to defend her life with deadly force. They even identify the firearm used - a .22LR semi-automatic. Single shot to the chest, DRT. The Brady's would rather see this clerk robbed and possibly raped - perhaps even killed - rather than the outcome as it stands.

I prefer this outcome by a wide margin.

Dead Goblin Count: 180

That is all.

I'd pay a million dollars to see the look on that bastard's face.

And for those who claim that *anything* smaller than 9mm as a self-defense round is basically useless, I point to this story, and say *Oh really*?

Taken out with a 22LR. Center Mass hits. I'd bet that he took a few in the heart, and bled out internally in very short order.

This lady's gun did exactly what it was designed to do...bring down an attacker inside of point blank range. Sure, a 22LR is basically a belly gun, and while point blank ain't exactly *stick in it the belly and pull trigger*, its still close enough that with good shot placement, it will kill you just as dead as a 9mm will with a center mass hit, or a .380, or a .40 Short & Weak, a .45, or any other fast moving projectile fired from a hand-held explosive containment device.

And kudos to the employer that permitted her to defend herself!

Anybody that likes their .45 and makes fun of anything smaller, I dare you to catch one in your teeth. You do that, and I'll stop carrying my pansy little .40 or .380 and immediately switch to .45.

And then I'll shoot you with my .45 for being a prick.

*snort*

This story is a huge loss for the antis, and that says EVERYTHING about their position.

What I liked? I read the comments on the linked story. Every single one was positive, except for one which complained about coverage of local events to the exclusion of national issues.

Like Dennis says, anything that'll poke holes in a bad guys is not "useless"

Of course the anti's would rather this woman end up raped and likely killed.

So much for "give them what they want."

They should make a movie out of this and use "Feel good story of the year" in the trailer.

As to using a .22, it's better than not having a firearm at all, but it's not ideal. We also don't know how many times he was shot as the article doesn't give a number.

@Dragon, "Belly gun" is not a reference to caliber, it's a reference to accuracy and range. A .22 handgun can be very accurate up to at least 100 yards.

I doubt this woman would describe herself as a "victim." I know I wouldn't.

Maybe "intended victim" "percieved easy victime" suuuuure...
She's a survivor. There is nothing noble about being a "victim" to anyone. She deserves more respect than that.

(I know it's not an intentional slight...rather, something which we have been conditioned into reflexively thing for years.)

Can we pin a medal on her?

Greg Ellifritz of the Buckeye Firearms Association did a study titled "An Alternate Look at Handgun Stopping Power". A printable version is at http://www.buckeyefirearms.org/node/7866. He basically reconfirmed that the first rule of gunfighting is to bring a gun to the fight, regardless of caliber. Obviously, rifles and shotguns are preferred to pistols and revolvers, but they are harder to conceal. The .22's and .380's did quite well compared to the .45's.
