Model 29
Ah, the venerable Model 29, the "most powerful handgun in the world" made famous by Clint Eastwood as "Dirty" Harry Callahan.
Model 17
The target model 17 in .22LR is back in limited form, although only as a 6" barrel, not in 8 3/8" barrel form like my favorite .22LR revolver.
Model 36
The Model 36 enjoys a rebirth in the Classic line, with new +P capacity and shapely new wood grips (a pity they had to include the zit in this classic, but...)
No reason for this other than I love me some blued S&W wheelguns...
That is all.

I think I've made it pretty clear that I'm an unabashed S&W fanboy, and I'm delighted that S&W is doing the "Classic" series. (I believe they're doing a Model 18 in addition to the Model 17.)
But.
MSRP on the new Model 17 is apparently $950.
I haven't paid that for any of my Model 17s. And I saw one at Cabela's yesterday (I think it was a no-dash 17; I know it had the diamond magnas) for $750.
I realize it's probably hard to produce those guns at a lower price point, but I just can't bring myself to pay those prices for new guns.
I just wish they'd quit fucking up their nice looking guns with that worthless internal lock "Zit".
Sadly my Pix of the artfully engraved S&W revolvers from the NRA show didn't come out well. I wanted to show the stupidity of having beautiful coin work, gold inlay and high-polish bluing...and a fucking locking Zit that nobody wants.
Also give that my 642 is to date the only gun I've bought new and it came from the factory without the zit they obviously aren't FORCED to fuck up a good revolver.
Yeah, there was a model 18 there, too, but I didn't get a good picture of it...
Understand on the price, but I suppose if you had a real hankerin' for one it might be worth it.
Thing with the old guns is that they aren't making any more. If you had a pristine model 17 you might want to pony up for a new model, y'know?
Not to mention that S&W wants top money for their wheelguns anyways - the stainless 617 has an MSRP of $830.
An extra $120 for a blued steel classic? That's not too bad IMHO...

Well, the Model 18 is one of my current Holy Grail guns. The gunshop I've bought most of my older S&Ws from has a "Classic" Model 18 in the case.
Problem is, it just doesn't have the same aesthetic appeal as the older Model 18s do to me. I can't explain it (no, Weer'd, it isn't the lock), but the "Classic" Model 18 just doesn't look right to me.
(That same Cabela's also had an older Model 18 (also with the diamond magnas) in the case. I thought long and hard about it, but it didn't look like it had box and papers. Plus I'm trying to stick to one gun a month, and I've already bought my gun for July: I just couldn't justify the purchase to myself. But Cabela's price was less than my shop was asking for the "Classic" 18.)
Little tidbit of worthless fact!
When the screenplay for Dirty Harry was written, the .44 Mag was the 'most powerful handgun in the world', it was *NOT* when the Dirty Harry movies were released. The .454 Casull was.
How can a S&W be a "Classic" when it has that zit?
It's like calling a copy of the Mona Lisa a classic by adding a mole to her cheek.
