Friday Gun Pr0n #224

Today's gun pr0n is a brace of guns from mopar and his lovely bride:

Rugetta? Baruger?

Obviously that's one of the new Ruger SR1911s, and next to it is a Beretta Bobcat Inox in .22LR. They'll be coming to the Fourth Annual Northeast Bloggershoot, and I'm curious to try both. The Ruger because, well, it's a Ruger 1911; the Beretta because mouseguns have always held a special fascination. The Beretta's especially of interest because of the tip-up barrel - that's an ingenious bit of engineering, and I'd like to take a closer look at it.

Thanks for sharing these today, Mr. & Mrs. Mopar!

That is all.

Jay, didn't I bring my Beretta 21A Bobcat to the last bloggershoot when AD was up at Harvard Sportsman's?

Anyway, you're welcome to put some rounds downrange through mine any time... and you don't have to wait for the bloggershoot to do it.

Not that there is much of a wait until the next bloggershoot.........

Ross I know the scar on my neck from one of the NES shoots where I caugth one of your brass in my collar has finally faded!

I must say I really have some unnatural lust for those tilt-barrel Berettas!

Hmm. Note to Self: Buy .45ACP to help feed Mopar's Ruger before the Shoot.

I can vouch for those little Beretta tip-barrels being very fun little sidearms. They can be surprisingly accurate, as well.

I adore the Bobcat that lives in my wife's pocket so much that I will have to buy my own some day to be able to shoot one more.

The Jetfire is the better of the two "weakest" Beretta pocket pistols, IMO. I'd rather have the centerfire reliability of .25ACP than .22lr. And 9 rounds of .25 ACP has to mean the biggest capacity of any pocket pistol I can think of. Of all the Beretta pocket pistols, the .32ACP Tomcat INOX would be the best choice. Still regretting I sold my Jetfire, but my S&W 438 full of Hornady Critical Defense is more comforting.

Rifleman: Like Jay, my wife has a fascination with mouseguns, as well as with Berettas in general. It's not a carry gun (that's usually a Seecamp or a Glock 36) so she went for ammo price/availability. .25acp is 30-50 cents a round, .22lr CCI minimags which have so far been 100% reliable are like 8 cents a round. The inox tomcat is on her want list, she probably would have bought one if it was in stock. They only had the tomcat in blued, so she got the inox bobcat instead. I think if a jetfire showed up she would grab it as well.

I've owned several of the 21-As, and they have all been excellent. They're reliable and astoundingly accurate, and I've seen novices hit human silhouette targets out to 100 yards with them. Not tight groups, but enough to dissuade attacker(s) from getting closer. A friend had a nickeled version that was finicky, but the blued and matte versions work well. I got one for both of my kids when they were 7 years old, along with locally-made holsters and mag pouches. They were great little guns to learn basics on.

Even smaller than the Beretta Bobcat are the 10 ounce Jetfire (8 rounds of .25 ACP) and Minx (6 rounds of .22 Short).
See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beretta_Mini_Pistols
For those that think that .25 ACP and .22 Short are "insufficient", remember that the first rule of a gunfight is to bring a gun.
See http://www.buckeyefirearms.org/node/7866 to see the relative effectiveness of these smaller calibers.
