Quick Question...

Anyone know the melting point of Ibuprofen? The way my right shoulder and hand feel today, I'd like to go swimming in a great big vat of the stuff right now... I don't know if it's that I'm getting older or shooting more outrageous calibers at the shoots, but damn I am sore over a good chunk of my body today...

But it's a gooood hurt.

That is all.

At least it was appropriately earned. My Ibu gobbling today is from fighting with a stubborn chainsaw and moving large, wind-downed limbs from three properties.

My only weekend shooting-related injuries were to my ego and self-esteem.

Moist heat does the trick for me. Damp towel over the afflicted muscles, then a heating pad (wrapped in a thin plastic bag if it's not watertight) over that. I have to use that and aspirin on my back more often than I like.

Use some heat first if you're really stiff. Then try to easily stretch or rotate; massage if you can get someone to do it. Then ice the area for a few minutes. IBuprofen should help too. Repeat the ice once or twice a day or as needed.
Ice really works wonders for me.
If it's bruised you should probably skip the massage for a few days.

Jay,

Check your email when you have a chance. I too am sporting The Purple Oval of Freedom. I ran about 50 rounds through Lyudmila, not to mention some shells through a Saiga-12.

They make (though its hard to find in the US) an Ibprofin "creme" or rub, that can be rubbed into injuries (bypassing potential stomach upset for those sensitive to it).

Looks like you all had fun. Makes me wish I coulda gone!

A caution regarding mrs doubletrouble's advice: while icing reduces bruising, it also reduces the body's own natural healing, so you'll have a lesser bruise, but it'll stay longer(bruising is actually part of the healing process).

Heat, some stretching and a combination of aspirin and ibuprofen seems like the right idea. A stint in a humid sauna or failing that, a hot bath, would likely help loosen it up a bit, as an alternative to massage.

Gotta add, if you're willing to try something less traditional.....try Arnica gel/creme (availible at your local health food store most likely). I'm NOT a big fan of holistic medication, but someone talked me into trying Arnica when I a bruise from hell, and the bruise completely disappeared in no time flat. I've used it since with similer results. Just wash your hands VERY WELL after applying.

Try Voltaren Gel, works great.

Prescription only, though, I'm afraid.

I'm sore too Jay, and I suspect it was from either carrying too much stuff, or smiling too much.

Need my shoulders to calm down a bit before I start scrubbing out those bores !

But like Weerd said, our bumps and bruises were well earned. And I second heat. Personal preference is icy hot. Wouldn't use it on your hands for obvious reasons

A hot bath and a body rub cure most of my husband's aches and pains, but alas, I cannot help you with the second. Perhaps the Mrs. might oblige you?

Forget the Ibu, invest in Limbsavers, heh, heh.
