Protect Yourself, Go to Jail - That's the MA Way!

Brad_in_MA sends in the following story which encapsulates pretty much everything that's wrong with arbitrary gun laws and nanny states...

Revere man, 82, accused of shooting two people he suspected were trying to break into his home

An 82-year-old Revere man used a rifle to shoot and wound two people he believed were breaking into his Revere home early Wednesday morning, authorities said.

Charles J. DiCino was arraigned Wednesday in Chelsea District Court where he pleaded not guilty to possession of a firearm without having a firearms identification card, two counts of assault with intent to murder, and two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, according to court records.

Two homeless people were trying to break down his door, so he grabbed a rifle and shot both of them. In the state of Massachusetts, apparently, the authorities would prefer that an 82 year old man call the police and hope they can make it to his remote location before the two homeless drug users batter their way in and beat him to death for the $20 he has in his pockets. This is an enlightened state, you see. Only official state-sponsored violence is allowed!

The possession charge is complete and utter BS. I'd wager dollars to donuts that Mr. DiCino has an expired FID card, as there are thousands of felons - yes, felons - in MA whose only crime was believing that a "lifetime" Firearms Identification card was actually valid for their lifetime. In 1998 the MA Gun Control Act was passed that turned the $25-for-life FID into a $100-for-4-years card with the same requirements as the $100 LTC. It was not widely publicized at the time, so many MA gunowners became felons when their "lifetime" FID cards expired on their next birthday.

Because, you see, in MA you need a license to simply own - not carry - so much as a bolt action .22LR rifle.

And don't you dare use that rifle to defend yourself against vagrants trying to break into your house! DiCino caught one of the two breaking his window and called the cops, but they were gone before the police got there. When they came back to finish the job, he shot them. Now, I don't know about anyone else, but it's certainly a possibility that they were angry with DiCino for calling the cops and were looking for some payback. In any case, they're obviously not that bright, seeing as how the cops had already been called so they knew someone was home. And yet they tried to break in anyways.

Welcome to MA, where we expect 82 year olds to defend themselves against multiple attackers half their age with their bare hands - truly a civilized area.

That is all.

Methinks he should have practiced the "Three S's", and not involved the cops.

I've repeated the felon for expired FID thing too, but it's not true. It's a $500-$5000 civil fine, provided you would be eligible if you applied. If you have a new license issued within a year, they have to return your guns too.

See Chapter140/Section131 paragraph (m)

Gee even in Oak Park Illinois defensive handgun use where they were banned has been let go in court.

Hello, citizens of Massachusetts. This is your "wake up" call. Your elected representatives passed this law and others like it. Your elected governor signed this law and others like it. How does it feel to live under such insane, freedom-depriving laws? Safer? You must be delusional. See a psychiatrist for some anti-anxiety medications and definitely discuss your hoplophobia.

Do you want to be free? Demand that your government revoke these laws, now. Vote out all that do not support freedom as it will only get worse unless everyone acts, now.

Wake up!

Jay - Please don't take offense, but why the hell would anyone live in such a state? Vote with your feet and move. I believe that where cops themselves so readily enforce such bullshit laws, it is too late, such a state is down the toilet.

Just my two cents...
