We Are Not Alone...

And by "we" I mean "those of us in Massachusetts" and by "not alone" I mean in having asshats for leadership. ASM826 e-mailed me the link to a recent post at his blog (which you really should be reading, BTW; he's got a lot of good stuff there!):

For MArooned, Some North Carolina News

He takes exception to this recent quote from his governor:

I think we ought to suspend, perhaps, elections for Congress for two years and just tell them we won't hold it against them, whatever decisions they make, to just let them help this country recover. I really hope that someone can agree with me on that. --Gov. Perdue

It was shrugged off as some sort of joke - which it might have been - but given the fascist tendencies of both the Democratic party in general (witness the goonion thugs at work in WI, for example) and in NC specifically (the whole "it's a state of emergency so you can't own guns" thing scares the hell out of me) makes me wonder just what Governor Perdue really means. I would not be surprised in the least to find out she was dead-serious.

Because, really, scratch a progressive, there's a fascist underneath just waiting to control everything...

That is all.

Would he say that if another Party was in complete control? If Not, shut up and sit down.

I would. I don't care who they are or what their plans are. I believe it was Churchill who said, "Democracy is the worst form of government, except for all the others that have been tried".

I know you can't even run a school board or a shooting club without the board members getting cross-grained from the people they are supposed to represent. The idea that a country of 300+ million people could represented by a system put in place in the 1780s is a testament to that system. Breaking that system to give someone power for any reason, even under the guise of "temporary", is very bad juju.

Like any game, government runs best when it runs within the rules of the game. In our case, that is the U.S. Constitution and the ratified Amendments to the Constitution. Unfortunately, some have other ideas and feel too limited by those rules. They need to be ejected from the game.

"Because, really, scratch a progressive, there's a fascist underneath just waiting to control everything."

And that is the simple truth of it.

The governor is a woman Beverly Perdue.

Her staff is saying she was joking but the audio was played on talk radio this afternoon and there was no
laughter afterward. She did not sound like she was joking either.

The "It was a joke thing" started after she started receiving criticism for her stupid comments.

Maybe she'd also like to suspend the investigation into her fund raising practices.

Hell why not. We already have the no oversight, top secret, no arguing with budget Super Committee. What could it hurt.

How's it go? Oh, Yea "It is with great reluctance that I have agreed to this calling. I love democracy. I love the Republic. Once this crisis has abated, I will lay down the powers you have given me!"
