Spock attends his last 'Star Trek' convention

ROSEMONT, Ill. (AP) — Leonard Nimoy has attended his final "Star Trek" convention.

The 80-year-old actor, best-known for playing Mr. Spock in the original TV series that began in September 1966, formed four fingers into a V for Vulcan sign and intoned to fans Spock's most famous phrase: "Live long and prosper."

Spock didn't attend his last convention; Leonard Nimoy did. The man is 80 years old and has been dogged by his most famous acting role for well over half his life. A Massachusetts native (really! Spock is a Masshole - go figure!), Nimoy took drama classes at Boston College, against the better wishes of his parents. They wanted him to learn a useful skill - like playing the accordion.

I think we can all agree that an accordion-playing Mr. Spock should be one of the signs of the Apocalypse...

That is all.

(No, wait, that's not it?)

Nimoy is an Alcoholic. I'm just saying there have been times when he said "never again" and was wrong.

Just sayin'

Nah, he's not an Alcoholic. He's Bi-polar! No really. First the book "I am not Spock" followed by "I am Spock"?!?!?!?

In that vein, here's one of my favorite Space: Above and Beyond clips.

If Spock is playing an accordian, then you must acquit!

Accordion, hell! Have you ever seen or heard the clip of him singing "Bilbo Baggins?

It'll kill your soul, and then some.

He is also known (in some circles) for the narrations he's done for CDs and radio programs about the High Holy Days, Purim, and Hanukkah. And he does a lovely job, too.

At age 80, his cardiologist may have suggested that the old ticker might not be up to the sight of some of the cosplayers at conventions. Yeah, you know, those ones and those other ones.
