How Does MA Differ From Canada?

In Canada, they don't require you to register your longarms... Les and DB sent in similar links to this story:

Canada's Conservative government to ease gun laws
TORONTO (AP) - Canada's Conservative government introduced legislation Tuesday to scrap a controversial law that requires the registration of rifles and shotguns.

Canada has long required registration of hand guns, but the long-run registry law passed in 1995 faced bitter opposition from rural Canada, the Conservative party's base, which considered it an overreaction to the problem of urban crime.
In Massachusetts, every transaction involving a firearm requires that a form (E-FA-10) be filled out for every transfer. Buy a gun? Sell a gun? The transaction needs to be registered. Doesn't matter if it's a longarm or a handgun, a single-shot .410 shotgun or a state-of-the-art polymer wundernine; it needs to be logged with the state. So, basically, Canada has some gun laws that are more lenient than MA gun laws.

Massachusetts: We have worse gun laws than Canada - but then again, just say you're an illegal alien and all is forgiven...

That is all.

It does make one wonder: Can an "Undocumented Immigrant" from Toronto get a Long Gun in Worcester easier than a Citizen of the Volksrepublik? ; )

14" shotgun barrels are kosher there too. I'm a little envious on that one.

Does MA require safety training and a license to acquire a long gun? Canda still has those requirements in place.

wv: annurge. I have annurge to go buy another shotgun, just ebcause I can.

Les,

I would imagine it would be an order of magnitude easier - because they don't have to "prove" that they're a citizen, etc. They don't need to get an FID, etc.

Granted, they'd be getting the long arm illegally, but since they're already illegal, it's okay!

Justin,

14" barrels are fine here, too, you just have to pay a little more for them...

Dave H.,

In Massachusetts you need a permit to own *any* firearm or ammunition. *ANY*.

Not on a shotgun, unless the shotgun came that way from the factory originally. Any modification of a shotgun to have a shorter than 18" barrel falls under MA's 'sawn off shotgun' law.

In Canada you can attach a stock to a pistol and... it's still a pistol. Already registered so, no change.

Canada has one thing that's much worse.

Its carry laws are a lot like Hawaii, *technically* may issue but in reality no issue at all.

So... you've got that going for you.
