Now, I notice something interesting here. There's what appears to be the Derringer equivalent of a "witness hole" - a "loaded chamber indicator", if you will. I wonder if this is going to be submitted as a MA-compliant gun? I don't know if I'd pay actual money for one - actually, that's a lie. For the right price point, I'd buy one of these so fast my wallet would get whiplash - I am an absolute sucker for an oddball gun. While Tam pooh-poohs the "look at me" factor of a firearm at the range, I relish it - because nothing brings folks together like shooting a unique pistol.
At the very least I'd love to run a box or two of ammo through it just to say I'd done it...
That is all.

I appreciate the value of the visible cases as a cartridge indicator - but that looks like an awful lot of brass showing to me.
Am I the only one who's concerned about the pressure on the case base during firing? Yeah, I looked it up: The SAAMI limit for .45 ACP is 21,0000 psi piezo. Not that you'd get a lot of pressure buildup in a 3 inch barrel...
Ugghh: Make that 21,000. Aren't your fingers twitching, just looking at a 14 ounce .45 ACP?
Jay,
I saw this a few weeks ago ... and wondered how long it would take for you to blog it. Question answered.
On a related note, Vintage Ordnance makes replica Liberator FP-45 pistols. I'm sure you'd love to get your hooks on one of those.

If you like the new and unusual, and want to see another example of the use of witness holes to determine whether a round is in the chamber, see the new Boberg XR9-S:

Be sure to check the overall size and weight, barrel length (3.35 inch!!!), 9mm Luger caliber, +P capability, magazine capacity, perceived recoil and foot-pounds of muzzle energy delivered compared to other pocket pistols such as the Rohrbaugh R9S or the Kel-Tec P3AT.
Hurt has it about right.
How about I let you shoot my PM45 and I just kick you in the kilt every time you pull the bang switch, and I only load two pills in each mag?
Save you a ton of money, I suspect you'll have your fill before we're at the bottom of the first box!
Jay: I think you're OK from Tam about your lust. I believe she's objecting to people buying this thinking it would be an EFFECTIVE gun rather than "isn't that novel?"
Weerd: Kicking in the kilt. Not as effective as you'd think because of something called the curtain effect. Plus, the sporran (worn appropriately and constructed with it in mind) can do one hell of a number on the kicker's shin.
It's about the same as holding your hands out in front of you, palms out and elbows locked, and letting Pete Sampras slam a tennis racket into your palms.
I used to think the Pachmayr Dominator in .308 was a great idea until I got to shoot one.
I would just like to remind everyone here that I shoot a 12 ounce .357 Magnum...
A 14 ounce .45 ACP would be downright pleasant...
Just sayin'...
This is a very practical gun.
Most always you don't need a gun, most always when you do 0 shots will suffice, most always when you have to shoot 1 shot will suffice.
Small, lightweight, practical 99.9999% of the time.
