Politically INcorrect

I love it! Reader Jacqueline from Texas sends in this story of a business that, surprising in this day and age of political correctness and appeasement, has *not* caved in to political correctness...

Restaurant With Controversial Poster Sees Spike In Customers
A restaurant with a poster on its wall that some find offensive has seen a big boom in business.KPRC Local 2 aired a story Thursday about Nonmacher's Barbecue on Mason Road.

Among the many joking posters and other signs on the walls, one poster depicts a group of cowboys lynching what appears to be a Middle Eastern man. One member of the lynch mob wears a shirt that reads "Iranians Suck" and the caption at the bottom declares, "Let's play cowboys and Iranians."
The poster, mind you, went up some 30 years ago - back when American citizens were being held hostage at the American embassy in Iran and parody songs such as "Bomb Iran" (set to the Beach Boys' "Barbara Ann") were playing on the radio. Why it is an issue now it's hard to, except perhaps that a member of the Perpetually Offended club got a burr up their butt about it.

The interesting thing is the owner's response to death- and bomb threats:
"The this and that, this and that, we're going to blow your place up and kill you. OK, don't talk about it. Do it," Nonmacher said.
When bad meets ass, right there... Something tells me that an attempt on Nonmacher would end very badly - for the assassin. And one last thing. This is Texas, after all. Jacqueline reports on the effect of the media blitz and constant assault on Nonmacher's Barbeque over this controversial poster:
Just left Nonmacher's and they have sold out of BBQ...about 15-20 protesters were across the street, countered by the ever increasing line of veterans and probaly half the crowd from the local high school football game! The protester's blinked first, they left and the line for bbq was even longer than when I arrived.
G-d Bless Texas.

That is all.

Shame it's so far away. Now, I'm hungry for BBQ.

I was hopeful when I saw it was in Texas, but alas, it is a bit too far to get to on it's own merit. If ever I'm in the Houston or Katy area though, that place is getting my business.

It's not why I moved to Texas, but that response to threat is a big part of why I haven't left yet.

I'll go to Nonmacher's about two weeks from now, but first, I've a round trip drive to Orlando and back to get done.

When I go for that BBQ, I'll take my laptop and give a "real time range report".

If any of Jay's Texas readers want to join me there, just drop me a note via < j_seigler AT haught mail daught cahm. >

Couple weeks oughta be a good enough span to actually call it a mini-blogmeet, of sorts?

Given schedules and distances, we might not make it to a shooting range, but a pilgimage to Collector's Firearms may well be in order.

Been there a bunch of times and the poster has been there since my first trip in '98. Good food too. Katy is the metro-west equivalent of Houston. The problem with being one of only a few areas with new jobs is that you attract carpetbaggers from the nanny states who want life the way it was back in where it was better. They are never happy and everyone else needs to change to suit them. There's a lot of that here in NH too.

Steve,

I will make you a solemn promise that once I move to NH, I will not ask for ONE DAMN THING to be like it was in MA.

Promise.

Nonmachers has magnificent BBQ. A couple of decades ago, they had to place fencing around and over their smokers to keep folks from stealing their meat.

Five hours south of us, added to the list for road tip fodder. Born and raised in a nanny state, came west for the booming economy and ask for nothing myself. Nice attitude, Steve. Wasn't aware I needed permission to travel within the country. Will my DD214 suffice for ID?
