Twofer!

Sent in by, well, everyone (and their [Say]Uncle) was this charming story out of Alaska:

2 teens shot to death in suspected home robbery
Two teenagers are dead after they were shot by a man who said they forced their way into his East Anchorage home early Thursday and tried to rob him, according to police. Police announced Thursday afternoon that two other suspects in the robbery had been arrested.

The occupant of the home, Larry James, 55, told police he fired shots at two men who entered his home, said police spokesman Lt. Dave Parker said. Two 19-year-old Anchorage men who died from the gunshots were later identified as Maurice T.R. Johnson and Joseph Trantham, police said.
There were two others involved - a total of four people - to break into a mobile home. One of the "teens" was armed with a firearm, no word on whether the other goblins had any weapons. Some of the comments to the article wonder if the homeowner was involved in "extracurricular" activities that might have drawn the youths to his house, pointing to the homeowner having a safe that the youths apparently knew about. Unless and until something dramatic changes, it doesn't mean a thing.

Four young adults against a 55 year old man by himself. Think about those odds. The kids came into his home, threatened him, started beating him, and were only stopped when he opened fire. What would have happened if he hadn't had a gun in the house? Would they have been happy with taking the contents of his safe? Or maybe just take care of the only witness and throw themselves a little party? It's a good thing Mr. James doesn't have to wonder.

Dead Goblin Count: 211

That is all.

"Oh NO! Two More of our Precious Youth Cut down by Gun Violence! When will those EviL NRA Thugs allow us to have Reasonable, Common Sense Gun Control so we can save our Children!?"

When the Youth stop being Goblins, perhaps?

We just had a story about our "high gun death rate" spread through the local media.

Looks like we'll be going up again...

Even if, as the commenters claim, Mr. James was engaged in dealing pot, he should still have the right to defend his life. One of the pernicious effects of victimless crime laws is to call into question that basic human right.
