Countin' Up to Xmas!

Reader herbie sends in the latest DGC addition, which is a head-scratcher:

Under new law, shooting may be OK, DA says
A man who fatally shot a teenage boy and wounded the boy's father Saturday night in Montgomery County may have been justified in the shooting after the two came at him with baseball bats, according to the district attorney.

Under the "stand your ground" provision of the newly enacted Castle Doctrine, a person has the legal right to use deadly force if he believes it is necessary to protect himself from death or serious bodily injury, District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman said.
Let me see if I've got this straight. The shooter is the boyfriend. The deceased is the son of the husband. Woman was living with the boyfriend, had a falling out, called her husband to come get her? He shows up with his teenaged son, they get out with bats to rough the boyfriend up, he retreats but is cornered and winds up shooting the kid. Who was poking him with the bat. While he had a loaded gun in his hand. My head hurts.

There's a reason for the expression "Play stupid games, win stupid prizes"...

Dead Goblin Count: 224

That is all.

Wow. I really expected to read this happened in a trailer park. Mom calls hubby and son to pick her up from boyfriend's house. Son and hubby (who is only 15yrs older then son) decide to rough up BF for good measure. BF shoots hubby and son, killing son. So much #FAIL for such a short story.

19 year old Senior at the High School? Refuses to Back Off after being Warned about a Gun, shown the Gun, and even struck by the Gun? Sure this isn't a Darwin Award instead of a DGC?

How does the castle doctrine have anything to do with this? This guy obviously retreated several times, and the bat wielding dudes just kept chasing him.

On Monday, Boyertown Area School District Superintendent Dion Betts said grief counselors were available to students and staff.

I'm guessing that the grief counselors won't have a whole lot to do - at 19, he's bound to have been left back at least twice, and his actions prior to his death certainly show that he's dumber than a box of rocks.

As for adultery, O Brave Anonymous poster... last I heard, in the US the penalty for adultery isn't getting beaten to death by a couple of dumb rednecks. But the penalty for attempted murder certainly can be death. Yeah, I'm fine with it. The son & the hubby had no call to try and beat this guy to death - and make no mistake, a metal and a wooden club can easily kill someone - so if I was on a jury, BASED ON THE INFORMATION PRESENTED IN THE ARTICLE, I'd have no qualms whatsoever about voting to acquit. Assuming that they even bring charges. Which, since this happened in a free state, PA, isn't a definite.
