Et Vous, Canada?

Heh. Another quality news item from the BLNN (Bubblehead Les News Network*)...

Canada to withdraw from Kyoto Protocol

Canada will formally withdraw from the Kyoto Protocol on climate change, the minister of the environment has said.

Peter Kent said the protocol "does not represent a way forward for Canada" and the country would face crippling fines for failing to meet its targets.

It seems the pricetag is just a little too steep for the Canadians, especially given that China - one of the largest polluters - is not affected by the protocol - and the US as well has failed to ratify. Given that "global warming" is based on science that is questionable at very best, it's hard to justify asking every Canadian man, woman, and child to fork over nearly $2K each.

It's interesting to see the cracks begin to appear in the facade, is it not? As the harsh realities of the new, more austere world economy start to sink in, frivolous niceties like paying ($1.3 Billion) homage to the greenies fall to the waysides like scales from the eyes of even the most jaded socialists. Saving the environment is a noble cause; however when it comes at the expense of legitimate, proven business, well, Canada just kicked it to the curb.

Way to go North Minnesota!

That is all.

2cents at Northern Blogger (a childhood friend of Borepatch, I believe) gave us a look at a Toronto Sun web article about how unsettled the settled science is.

http://greatnorthblog.blogspot.com/2011/12/does-toronto-sun-count-as-main-stream.html

It's nothing new to your regular readers, but the fact that it's under the Toronto Sun's banner is telling. I find the Sun to be a bit light on journalism compared to, say, the Globe and Mail, so it was a pleasant surprise to see one of their commentators speak up about the emperor's (lack of) clothes.

Canada has shifted noticeably right (well, right for Canada) in the last election, so I'm not surprised they're planning to focus more on their economic woes and less on PC dancing. Prime Minister Harper isn't exactly a PC kind of guy, and now his party is the majority so he doesn't have to even pretend.

I blame George W. Bush. And Karl Rove - fiendishly clever Jedi mind tricks, right there.

Those crazy Canadian cowboys poking the UN in the eye.

Canada won't be the last to withdraw from Kyoto as governments start to realize how much compliance will cost in both tax dollars and lost revenue.

It was bad policy based on poor science from the start.

I guess that dumb cowboy Bush was right all along.

Yep, the cracks in the facade are getting bigger and bigger, especially with the UN now trying to make 'developed' countries pay a penalty for being developed and generating too much carbon dioxide!
