JayG: Corrupting the Youth of America One Son at a Time...

Heh. I had to share this with y'all...

I mentioned going to the range yesterday with one of my (former) new shooters who is now happily going down the path of the gun nut. After his new shooter outing with me, he bit by the gun bug big time, got his permit, and just recently took possession of two rifles and a shotgun from his father-in-law. He called me up asking if I could take him and his son to the range to try out the new guns; naturally, I was more than happy.

His son was one of my Cub Scouts who crossed over to Boy Scouts a few years back. He has shot single shot .22LR rifles with the Boy Scouts, and belongs to a rimfire club at another range where he shoots once a week. He's a young kid with young eyes and is a pretty good shot. But .22LR was starting to bore him, a little, and he wanted to shoot something bigger. Naturally, I was happy to oblige:

ZOMG! Tween with an Assault Rifle!

After the rifle portion I then proceeded to let him try the Ruger SR9c 9mm and the Smith & Wesson M&P45 handguns - he had never fired a handgun before! He did great - young eyes - ringing the 4" steel gong at 25 yards 5 out of 10 times with the .45 ACP. He liked that one best.

Next time, of course, I'll have my S&W Model 27 and the Colt Gold Cup...

That is all.

.22 is starting to bore him? Heh. Get that kid signed up for an Appleseed (there's one this weekend at Harvard Sportsman's Club) and he won't be bored trying to shoot a 1" square at 25 meters, I'll promise that.

Perhaps he'll need to get a Mini-14 soon. Seems to work well with the smaller sized people, and you don't have to pay a month's wages for .30 Carbine Ammo like we now have to.
