Attorney General vows to protect voters' civil rights
Eric Holder's speech in Texas took aim at new voting laws passed in a number of US states that critics say are designed to suppress minority turnout.Wah! Wah! Those evil racist Republicans won't let illegal aliens vote! They want people to [GASP] prove who they are before they can vote! Can you believe that? They actually want proof that the person voting is who they say they are! The nerve of those evil racist 1%ers!
Supporters of the Republican-backed measures say they will help combat voter fraud, but they are being scrutinised by the justice department.
Hold on. It gets even better...
Under the new rules passed in a number of states, voters are required to show state identification at the polls.Um... State Identification. Like a driver's license, you mean? Or a state ID, which you can get in most states for like $20??? $20 is too much to spend to secure ID that will allow one to vote, this is their claim, right? This $20 is too high a burden to place in order to participate in our democratic process, is this the hill they're ready to die on?
Critics, mostly Democrats, say the poor and elderly may struggle to secure that documentation.
The state of Massachusetts requires a permit ($100/5 years) to obtain an LTC or FID card that allows one to own firearms. To get this permit, you must take a class ($100). You are required to have a lock to place upon your firearm ($10). This is the bare minimum you must have in order to possess a single firearm. $210 to exercise your enumerated Second Amendment rights. But according to these yahoos, $20 is too much for someone to pay to prove they're a resident when it comes time to vote on who will govern the entire country.
I will wait for my $190 refund from the Democratic party - but not while holding my breath...
That is all.

Jay, can you get a LTC or FID card without some form of government identification, such as a driver's license? Seems like that adds to the total cost.
Can you buy a gun without showing a government ID (and letting it be copied)?
For context, I don't think you can enjoy your constitutionally-enumerated right to an abortion without showing government ID (needed for reimbursement)
Or cash a check, or pawn an item, or open a bank account, or fly on an airplane.
Like it or not, being able to identify yourself is a part of all of those things.
They tried doing this in Ohio with the same results from the left. Racist, keep 'em down, etc. Republican governor even offered to reduce the cost of a state i.d. to $0 and it still wasn't good enough. I guess this legislation would probably affect the zombies the worst, you know, the undead that rise in many Democratic strongholds every major election and manage to cast a vote before returning to their graves.
Yeah, what's interesting is the fact that many States in the North have had this for years, but Holder is having a Hissy about the Southern States.
Keep in Mind, this is the Same Holder who let the New Black Panthers WALK after being charged with Voter Intimidation in Philly.
Keep in Mind, this is the Same Holder who did Zip Point Nada about ACORN and its Voter Fraud.
Keep in Mind, this is the Same Holder who said DOJ will only Prosecute "Dangerous Illegal Aliens" when they are caught, but is going after various States who told their Police Depts. to ENFORCE the Federal Law ensuring that "Dangerous Illegal Aliens" are caught in the first place.
Can you say "Rig the Election for Obama", boys and girls?
Glad to see the BLNN badge is showing up.
I may have to have a logo made!

This. We require an ID to exercise one basic Constitutional Right, but it's "too much of a burden" to require it for another?
Even here in Virginia, which is generally pretty good on 2A Rights, you have to have a government issued photo ID (in addition to the CHP) in order to carry concealed*, and realistically you need a photo ID to get the CHP because the application must be notarized.
I believe, however, that there is no ID requirement for open carry in VA (but IANAL).
* Va. Code §18.2-308(H): The person issued the permit shall have such permit on his person at all times during which he is carrying a concealed handgun and shall display the permit and a photo-identification issued by a government agency of the Commonwealth or by the United States Department of Defense or United States State Department (passport) upon demand by a law-enforcement officer. Jay,
By the way, in the great state of Texas it costs $140 + in order to get a Concealed Handgun License.
It costs $16 to get a state approved and issued identification card and $25 for a driver's license.
I used to pound my fist on the table with these "voter suppression" stories until I reached the zen place of realization that the democrat party is reliant, in an existential way, on voter fraud to survive. When you realize that, you realize the extent that they will go to try to retroactively rationalize their behavior. They know it looks like exactly what it is: government one-party sanction of massive voter fraud to achieve a political end. And they don't care. Without voter fraud, there would be no democrat party. At all.
Robert Heinlein (the greatest science fiction writer EVER) said that voting rights should only be given to military and veterans, because they are the only ones who had skin in the game. (Literally) Not a bad idea.
The Black Panther ruling nullified the Jury Box.
The Fairness Doctrine and Internet "kill switch" are attempts to nullify the Soap Box.
Party sponsored voter fraud nullifies the Ballot Box.
Do they have any idea what that forces us to use?
Use the LTC as the photo ID to vote. After all, it is state issued.
This is what I posted on my facebook page shortly after voting in local elections last month, here in the "Great" State of Minnesota:
"When I went to vote today, I instinctively pulled out my state-issued license and attempted to hand it to the election judge, so she could, you know, verify that I am who I say I am. I was promptly told by her that she isn't allowed to look at my identification and she simply asked me my name. I gave her a name (in this case, my own), all the while, staring at the open election roll in front of me. Yeah, nice, secure voting system we have there where an honest citizen WANTS to show he has a legal right to vote but isn't allowed to do so, but any dishonest person could walk in, glance at the election roll, state a name, and vote illegally as someone else. I really don't care what anyone says about voter ID requirements being onerous. The current system of voter "verification" is rife with potential fraud and needs to be corrected."
You honestly wouldn't believe the argument that ensued between my left-leaning and right-leaning friends. It was pretty comical.
We have to show ID for local elections (bond, county, city stuff) but not yet for state and federal. I'll be curious to see what happens come March.
