We Need Immigrants Like Him...

Reader Gerry sends in some good news:

Top Shot Winner Becomes U.S. Citizen
Just over 20 years ago, I hopped off a British military aircraft at McChord AFB in Washington, and boarded a bus to Ft. Lewis. At the time, I was accompanying my platoon on a training exercise, as a means of exchanging tactics with our American counterparts, and it was my first visit to the United States while in uniform.
Go read the rest of Iain's story, it's a good one. There's a great allegory there for what he left, and what he came here to escape, and what we almost turned into. There's still a lot of ground to reclaim, but we are slowly but steadily heading in the right direction. With guys like Iain joining our ranks and helping to bring the good gunnie message to millions of folks out there, our cause can only prosper and flourish. He's a fine American, even if he does have a propensity for licking heads...

Welcome, citizen Harrison; I only wish there were millions more just like you coming to America...

That is all.

Their loss is our gain.

Ian showed up at my sporting clays stage at the Shooting Industries Masters in his tactical kilt and a big smile. Seemed to be a very nice guy.

You know, this may sound odd-BUT I was stationed at Ft. Lewis around that time (would have been 89 or so, maybe 1990), and WE trained with the Brits for 2 weeks. How weird would that be if it was the same unit!!
I dont recall which unit it was, but they had a bagpiper-which, 20 years later, I actually started playing, due to this specific training event with the Brits. Small, small world!!
