Burglar caught on camera entering a Middleboro home
MIDDLEBORO, Mass. -- A burglar was caught on a home security camera as he entered a house in Middleboro.Emphasis mine. You will understand more in a little bit...
The video shows the suspect knocking and then walking through the unlocked side door. It happened around 3:30 Wednesday afternoon when the homeowner was out.
My wife doesn't understand why I get so upset when I find doors unlocked in our house. This is why. Your home doesn't necessarily have to be a fortress, but taking very simple precautions like locking your damn doors can thwart most casual burglars. Why should they waste time and effort breaking into a house if the place next door has unlocked doors? Kicking in doors is dramatic and all, but it also sets off alarms and such - and in free America, paints a target squarely on the goblin's torso.
This is what got me:
“It’s the third year in a row that we’ve been broken into. My husband decided to put the camera in so that every time someone comes in to the house he’s actually triggered by e-mail and it’s a drop cam, we can see anybody that comes in the house,” said Iarrobino.Maybe your house is getting broken into so often because you leave your damn door unlocked?
Yes, the criminal is at fault here. Yes, you should be able to leave your door unlocked without fear of some scumbag walking in and stealing your stuff. However, what should be and how life really is rarely intersect, and taking very simple, basic precautions like locking your doors when you're going to be out of the house (really, you should lock your doors at all times) is just plain common sense. To complain about your house being broken into repeatedly, though, while leaving the door unlocked is beyond belief...
Someone, please, introduce "cause" to "effect" here...
That is all.

This right here is the basis for the struggle between gun owners and gun banners. We all agree we should be able to live in a world without fear of crime being committed against us. But the difference is that a gun banner believes that such a world can be made real by living as if it's real now. The rest of us (including the goblins, unfortunately) know that's not going to happen because the goblins don't subscribe to that opinion.
I fight this fight with my family on a continuing basis. I get teased about always locking every door every time I come in. So I remind them: Our next door neighbor to the north was broken into, our neighbor 2 doors down to the south was broken into, etc., etc...Just because it's a relatively nice area doesn't mean it's crime free.
Now if I could just get them to set the alarm.....

What breaking? You left your freaking door open, jfc.
One of the funniest/most poignant things for me from Correia's MH series was the vamps freely walking into a home because it had a 'Welcome' out front. Same principle.
The home was broken into. The door was shut, the latch engaged, but the door was unlocked. If someone turns the door knob and enters with evil intent, the home is broken into. If someone opens a shut window and enters with evil intent, the home is broken into. If an open window has a screen and the screen is moved and someone enters with evil intent, the home is broken into.

I am surprised that no one mentioned the friendly greeting that the light colored dog gave to the unwanted visitor.
