Husband killed, wife wounded in Vineyard shootout

WEST TISBURY — A Rehoboth man was killed and his estranged wife wounded Friday after they exchanged gunfire at a house where she was living on Martha's Vineyard.

Around 7:45 a.m., Kenneth Bloomquist, 64, allegedly broke into the house at 19 Skiff's Lane that he and his wife, Cynthia, had formerly shared as a vacation home, Cape and Islands District Attorney Michael O'Keefe said.

He found his estranged wife and shot her in the chest. She responded by shooting him dead. I call that a fair trade. He broke into the house where she was staying - a house that used to belong to the two of them, but was now her primary residence. She had recently started seeing someone, and also had taken out a restraining order against her estranged husband - which was denied, oddly enough; it certainly seems like it was needed at this point - and he came around creeping with a gun in his hand and murder on his mind.

Fortunately, she also had a gun in hand - and apparently better aim.

Dead Goblin Count: 268

That is all.

That is very sad.

I do wish that folks with legal firearms would consider the impact their actions have on the rest of us before they go off the deep end.
