Boy, The Ol' Shocked Face is Getting A Workout...

Another surprising story sent in by the BLNN:

Chevy Volt chargers being replaced
General Motors is replacing the 120-volt charger included with every car sold so far with redesigned units with a larger, more durable and reliable cord, according to Reuters.

The move comes after several Volt owners posted complaints in online forums about their charge cables overheating and, in some cases, partially melting, but GM spokesperson Randall Fox said that the move isn’t a safety issue,
Wow. And all this time Government Motors was telling us that there was no truth to the rumors that Volts were experiencing spontaneous combustion... Charge cables overheating and melting? Why, that's nothing at all like catching on fire! There are no tanks in Baghdad! We will crush the American aggressors!

Oh, sorry, I think I got the mainstream media confused with Baghdad Bob for a moment there...

That is all.

I'm betting that this means the wall-to-electronics-box end is no longer thermoplastic with a molded plug, but some sort of SO cable with a plug of heat-resistant material.

This is because I've googled up some photos of this 120v charger -- and the pretty pictures of heat damage that I see are not from the charger/cable/plug overheating, but from the outlet overheating and damaging the pretty Volt parts.

Jay,
A couple weeks ago Chevy started a 5 week halt to Volt production. I'm sure this news will be a boon to new sales. Or not.

On the plus side, they will only have to replace less than 10,000 units, since they didn't sell the 60,000 they predicted.....
