Elderly Vet Fights Off Would-be Carjacker in Lincoln Park
LINCOLN PARK, Mich. (WJBK) -- "Even today when I [thought] about it, I thought, 'Oh my God, I could have been dead or he could have been dead,'" said Constance Trusewicz.Apparently so, because Barney was ready to take on a paroled convict half his age who was armed with a butcher knife in order to protect his wife. From the sounds of things, I wouldn't be surprised if Mr. Trusewicz used some of his Army training in disarmament techniques and was applying significant pressure to the carjacker's wrists - generally, knife-wielding hoodlums don't just give up when an octogenarian says no...
The 78-year-old has been married to her 81-year-old husband, Barney, for 56 years. They both have bad knees, but they are still active and the best of friends.
Now, in this case, the simple show of force was enough to drive the carjacker off - but this could have gone so much worse. Mr. Trusewicz - and/or his wife - could have been stabbed, slashed, kidnapped, or outright killed. At the moment that criminal decided that their car was worth more than their lives - and threatening them with a knife is *exactly* what that means, they were faced with two choices: Comply and hope he doesn't hurt them, or fight back and hope they don't get hurt. Mr. Trusewicz chose to fight, and good for him.
Why do the anti-freedom forces want to deny people like Mr. Trusewicz access to the best tools available for when they choose to fight?
That is all.
