Know What?

TURKEY BUTT

Heh. Spotted these guys on the neighbor's lawn, and figured I'd try out the telephoto lens on the Nikon. Obviously they know it's not turkey season.

Maybe I should get an airgun for BAG Day?

That is all.

Crap ... they're already in strut. And turkey season is still five weeks off.

For an incursion like that you might want to consider Claymore mines.

Are airguns regulated in MA? I've seen some advertised that can be used for hunting. Here's one in .58 caliber with a muzzle energy about equal to a .40 S&W pistol:

My wife gave me a Gamo Whisper for Christmas, and I have been fairly impressed with it's accuracy and the pentration of those little pellets.

Turkey would probably be the upper end of the size range for something like that. I have no doubt you could give a lethal wound...it's a question of when it would be lethal.

FWIW, most airguns in the .177/.22 range are NOT enough gun for turkey. Birds are dumb, and require a CNS hit to not fly away and die elsewhere.

Also, turkeys have an absolutely insane amount of armor (feathers) on their body.

I think I need more coffee. I saw that picture, and the little monkey in my head started singing in a turkey voice "I'm too sexy for this yard, too sexy for this yard".

I've heard a few gobblers in the woods behind the house, but they haven't come out of the woods yet. Should start seeing them more often soon, and the does should start dropping fawns in the next few weeks too.

Saw a MONSTER Tom in somebody's yard around the corner from my place the other day.

Fuckers know when the season is.

Also I suspect they won't look TOO hard if one of them goes missing...

Oh, it won't be missing - it'll be in mah BELLEH...

That would have been overkill...

Dave H: He could always try to get ahold of a Girandoni military model repeating air rifle. It's perfectly legal with no permits required, due to being antique(it's the 18th century "assault rifle", as used in Lewis and Clark's expedition). About equivalent to .45 ACP, 20-22 round magazine(depending on what source you read), semi-automatic, can fire about 30 shots before needing to be repumped.

It's on my "best weapons after an apocalypse" list, since molding .46 ball is a whole lot easier than needing to find existing ammunition, or at least case, primer, and powder for a modern firearm.

In Roseburg Or on the same street as CostCo about 1/2 mile south there is a house that has 30-50 turkeys just hangin' in the yard for all to see. Don't know if the guy feeds them or they just know where there safe. This is not downtown but there are a lot of houses along that street.

Driving home the other day there was a flock of about 20 in a neighbor's driveway.

It would have been so easy to grab a shot gun and have fresh, wild, turkey.

Alas, out of season, no license, no shooting within 500 feet of a dwelling.
