Texting And Walking Injuries On The Rise
BOSTON (CBS) – Texting has become such a habit for many of us that you might not even think twice about texting while walking down a crowded street. But texting on-the-go could mean trouble. On the Boston University campus it was easy to spot college students with their heads buried in their keyboards while walking between classes. And many of them admit they are so distracted they bump into people or posts a few times a week. There's really a bigger issue here besides the point the story is trying to make about injuries. It's that someone walking around a city with their nose buried in a smartphone is in condition white or worse, and might as well have a giant neon sign over their head that says "ROB ME". These people are so clueless about their surroundings that they actually bump into people or objects; how the hell are they ever going to pick up on the not-nice man who has been tailing them for a block and a half?
I understand that sometimes you need to use your phone when you're on the move - heck, I've used the map feature to find places while walking around Boston. But if you need to take your eyes off your surroundings for more than a second or two - like when texting - take a moment, find a reasonable place to stop, take a glance around, complete your task and move on. If you are looking at the device (eyes and attention off your surroundings) *and* texting (hands occupied) you are the victim equivalent to a mugger of a waving red flag to a bull.

That is all.

Recall reading an article about how in certain British towns, they were pondering adding foam wraps to light poles to prevent such injury, but they had also pondered PSA's to warn against folks walking into traffic while texting...
Condition clear, I think someone (maybe Tam) called such cluelessness?
My dad called that and other things "rectal-cranial immersion". But he used that term long prior to the advent of texting, maybe prior to cell phones being so common.

Just watch some of the vids on "sharking"! Talk about people operating in condition white, most can't even hang up the phone after the incident has happened...so totally out of they they can't think to ID the culpret or even redress.
