Drought-Busting Rain Coming This Weekend
BOSTON (CBS) – January 12-13 – do you remember what you were doing back then? Probably not. But believe it or not, that was the last time we had a widespread, significant rainfall event in southern New England – more than three months ago! This drought is expected to end this weekend. Which, of course, is the Cub Scout overnight at the local Scout Reservation. It looks like we'll be able to get through most of the weekend before the real heavy stuff starts falling, although I am going to pack a couple ponchos and a rain jacket just to be on the safe side. Might grab an extra tarp or two, again, just in case...
Since then, our drought has gone from bad to worse and we have officially been placed in what experts call a “moderate to severe drought.”
And, as any Scoutmaster will tell you, it's all just liquid sunshine...
That is all.

This is similar to "How can you tell the Maine Family has gone on Vacation"
Record highs in Maine, Record lows in XTropical local.
I took a vacation with my Family in the late 80s to the FLORIDA KEYS. If it hadn't been February Maine would have been warmer. We had a damn frost, and the highest day was in the low 70s!
I'm beginning to think my Ultra used to belong to Rob McKenna.
If the forecast is for a 30% - 50% chance of precipitation, I can, more times then not, tip the balance by riding to work that night.
That's good of the Scouts to take one for the team just to end the drought like that. Now that's public service.
Pff: We had a snowstorm today... here in sweden. I saw some Anemone hepatica(a flower that is a sign of spring here) covered in snow.
Remember, when it does it at night it's "Liquid Moonshine". Wait, nevermind.... :)
Hey, Enjoy it why you can! There's a branch of the Weather Service that has a weekly Drought Status. Turns out, only 2 States got their Average amount of Precip this past winter, and that was Alaska and Ohio. What's scary is that over 61% of the States have some sort of Drought Conditions within their borders. Plus they are saying this will continue for a LOOOONG Time.
So let's see: Continued Drought, Higher Food Prices, Hotter than Normal Summer, Lousy Economy, it's an Election Year, and you KNOW Something will get Blown out of Proportion to be the "Next Big Evil Event", right Al Sharpton?
Stock Up on your Food, Carry Your Guns, Stay in Condition Yellow. It's not going to be Pretty, I fear.
If this works you should take them camping every weekend...
Just make sure you don't do what my scout troop did back in the day, and set up camp in the middle of where all the drainage from the high hills is gonna run through. Complete accident of course, but it took nearly 2 weeks for all the tents to dry out before we could pack them away
Step #1: Keep personal gear under cover until Step #6.
Step #2: Set up the dining flies. If there is a moveable picnic table, move it - it is already wet, anyways.
Step #3: Erect tent under dining fly where it is somewhat dry. Understand that you made a good choice of a free-standing tent small enough to fit under the dining fly during set-up.
Step #4: Move tent to adjacent location and stake down.
Step #5: Repeat Steps #3-5 as necessary until all tents are set up.
Step #6: Move personal gear into tents.
Step #7: Move picnic table back if moved. Enjoy your weekend. Rain can be dealt with. High wind is a problem as it knocks down the tents and dining flies.
The general rule of thumb for establishing camp is troop gear, patrol gear, tents, then personal gear. If rain, then do tents before moving patrol gear under the dining fly.
Make sure your tent is on the 'high' spot... :-)
Jay, that is also the way to tell when Project Appleseed is coming to Harvard Sportsman's Club - HSC can have 6 weeks of consecutive gorgeous weekends, but let an Appleseed Shoot get put on the schedule and you KNOW when it's going to rain.
Yeesh.
