Okay, I've gotten enough complaints - and I hate it myself - so I've turned off the stupid word verification requirement for comments. Google took it upon themselves to make it largely unreadable, and I know myself that after the second time of squinting at incomprehensible squiggles I've just given up on commenting...
So, as long as the spambots remain at bay, word verification is no more...
That is all.

Moved comments to a popup too, I see. Works for me.
I didn't have as much trouble with the WV as many, it seems. But in my line of work (software development) I get to deal with illegible writing and nonsensical words anyway. And that's just in my notebooks.

Thank you, it took 5 attempts to leave a comment before as I couldn't read the $%^*&$#$^$# word verification
I've gotten a lot of spam comments, but so far they've all gone into the spam box since I turned it off. It's not so bad on PC or laptop, but trying to comment from a smartphone is damn near impossible.
I gave it up awhile ago. Not much spam at all for me :)
Yay I can comment again :D
Yea...now I can comment from my iphone. The verification code was a real bummer man.

I turned my WV off and spam went through the roof. So far it's all ended up in the spam locker though, so no bad.
Hooray!
Good. I tried three or four times to leave you comment earlier in the week and finally just quit.
I chose to turn on comment moderation for all posts older than a week. It's amazing how many spam comments try to affix themselves to posts that are years old.
I turned it off at my place a while ago, and so far the spam filter has been working admirably.
Oh, thank you, Jay.
Wow. Spam levels have skyrocketed - BUT... all but one was caught automatically (i.e. not e-mailed to me).
I can live with that.

BH Les when I first started to read your comment I immediately thought of the end of Rush's 2112. Now I think I'll see if I can find the whole thing to post.
