Philadelphia councilman says $28K social media contract for Twitter, Facebook is justified
PHILADELPHIA — A Philadelphia city councilman is spending $28,000 in taxpayer money 140 characters at a time.

The Philadelphia Daily News reports Councilman Jim Kenney is paying an outside contractor $28,800 to send Twitter and Facebook updates on his behalf. The 53-year-old Kenney says he contracted ChatterBlast to communicate with younger constituents.
Here's the best part: Kenney allegedly approves everything this group sends out, yet they claimed he was not running for re-election last campaign cycle... Oopsie! You think that's the kind of thing that would get caught, wouldn't you? Now, the story doesn't say what the time frame was - if that's $28K over five or 10 years, that's not really all that bad (well, as bad as it could be). If it's per year, hell, Councilman Kenney, I'll do it for half that price.

And seriously, $28,800? They doubled their rates from 14,400 the previous year...

That is all.

So, will they charge $33,600 next year?

The good news is that 56K is the physical limit.

Anything geared towards re-election is "justified."
