Two Score and One Year Ago...

...I was born.

Happy birthday to meeeee... Currently spending it in the woods with the Cub Scouts on the very last campout. I'm a little sad, because this is the second-to-last event I'll be doing with the Pack, and the last of the *big* events. All we have left is the Fishing Derby (which I will be passing on) and the graduation; once I've gotten through those, the new Cubmaster will have been present for every event in the Cub Scouting year. Theoretically, at that point he'll be fully "trained" in the ways of the Pack and can start next year at a full run.

I'll continue to be available to help out with planning and such as needed; but I won't be attending the events. With my son moving on to Boy Scouts, I'll be thinking about becoming an Assistant Scoutmaster and/or Merit Badge counselor to assist the Troop in their endeavors. Part of that whole growing up thing, you know. Before you know it, I'll be teaching him to drive (and yes, I know that in the very near future I'll be giving him "THE TALK" - EEK - but let's not think about *that* right now...), then trundling him off to college... Sunrise, sunset. Sunrise, sunset.

But for now, I'll enjoy camping with my son on my birthday.

That is all.

miss 10 has a 3 night scout camp the first weekend of june (which i need to attend) and miss 8 has a 2 night one the third weekend in june (again, i need to attend). June BTW is WINTER HERE!!!! Still as you say time goes by v.fast and these are the days you look back on!

Enjoy the camping and I hope your son does continue with scouts and that you go along too for the ride.

Remember: no one wishes that they spent less time with their kids on their death beds ...

Happy Birthday, Jay!

I know it's unnecessary for me to say it, but cherish these moments with your son! Blink and you'll miss 'em, that's how fast your children grow. I speak from experience...

The TALK?

The one about 1911s and Glocks?

Congratulations on Surviving another year during the Decline of Western Civilization!

As for the TALK, when you have it, make sure you have some old school paper and pencils, and take good notes. And don't be afraid to ask The Boy to go into details. He'll probably have a Pop Quiz for you also, so be prepared.

What, you think you're the Only One with access to the InterWebs?

Happy Birthday Jay. Getting older is a nuisance, but it beats the alternative.

Enjoy reading your blog. Hope you have a great time on your camp out. Enjoy those moments. I'm the Tiger Den leader in my son's Cub Scout Pack and we're going on our first overnighter in 2 weeks. Gotta sharpen up those old Eagle Scout skills (and drop some coin on a tent, sleeping bags and other camping equipment)!

Keep your powder dry.....

Happy birthday, Jay. I can't think of a better way to spend it than with your son.

Happy Birthday Jay! And I hope your son enjoys the long road to Eagle Scout as much as I did. It doesn't seem to hold much weight when applying for an EMS job, but I don't regret it one bit.

Our sons are the same age ( 11 ) - My husband and I were just discussing that it is time for "the talk"... *sigh* Time flies. Mine just got his black belt in Tae Kwon Do. Growing up - fast.
