A Very Worthwhile Addition...

A whole bunch of folks sent this one in, and it's a good one...

North Bend homeowner shoots and kills intruder
NORTH BEND, Wash. -- A homeowner shot and killed a man who broke into the bedroom where the homeowner and his girlfriend were hiding.

The incident started just after 11:30 p.m. Friday night in the 300 block of SE 5th St in North Bend. A woman called 911 and said that an unknown man was pounding on her door and windows, yelling to be let in. Deputies arrived and didn't locate the suspect but heard a large crash and then banging from a nearby house.
The homeowners in this case did everything 100% correct IMHO. They called 911. They were in a defensible position. They informed the intruder that the police had been called and that they are armed. And shots were not fired until the intruder kicked down the door of the room that they were in. That's about as close to a slam-dunk case of self-defense as you're ever going to find.

I'd like to point out one thing, too. The cops were already IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD when these homeowners called 911. They were already looking for a dangerous person when the call came in from the second house. And yet the cops couldn't get to the house in time to save the couple - let's face it, if the intruder had had a weapon and the homeowners were unarmed, they'd have been killed before the cops arrived.

You are your first and best line of defense - not the police, not 911, not ADT.

Dead Goblin Count: 273

That is all.

Too bad they can't all be clean like a textbook example. This sort of "neatness" is so rare, it's a good reminder of how important it is to be prepared for the worst.
