Don't Mess With A Vet...

Even if he's a veteran of a war some 60 years prior... Both the BLNN and reader Joseph sent in this near-DGC...

Korean War vet shoots intruder inside home
ELIZABETH, Pa. (AP) — Police say an 84-year-old western Pennsylvania man wounded a home invasion suspect with the gun he carried in the Korean War.
Elizabeth Township police say 25-year-old Raymond Hiles was captured not long after trying to break into Fred Ricciutti's home early Tuesday morning.
Ricciutti shot Hiles in the neck, at which point Hiles bolted from Ricciutti's house and headed for someplace safer, like a lion's den or a pit of vipers. Something tells me that if Hiles hadn't beat feet out of there, Ricciutti's next shot was going to be someplace that wouldn't grow back... The article doesn't state what Ricciutti used, but it's either an M1 Garand, M1 carbine, or 1911. I'm guessing either M1 carbine or 1911 - a .30-06 in close range would, even in a grazing wound, more than likely have dropped Hiles on the spot just out of shock...

And, once again, I feel compelled to flagellate the deceased equine and point out that the CSGV/Brady's/etc. would prefer that an 84 year old man either cower in fear or go hand-to-hand with a man nearly 60 years his junior* rather than use a firearm. They will count Hiles as a "victim of gun violence" - and in extreme cases, as a "child" injured by a gun (some of the statistics they cook up have "children" as old as 26 years old...) They would rather see a veteran terrorized in his own home rather than what actually happened - although I surmise that Mr. Ricciutti would hardly have been terrorized, and would likely have beaten Hiles with a stick rather than give up...

In any case, good on you, soldier, and next time don't feel compelled to hold back - we can use the addition.

That is all.

*Thanks AJ!

I heard about this on the radio and found an article about it at the Washington Post. (http://wapo.st/JeE7Eb) (They've run some surprisingly balanced gun stories lately.)

The WashPo says the homeowner pulled his gun from a drawer, so I imagine it was either a 1911 or he's got really deep drawers.

Another interesting twist is that the perps parents, who live across the street, came over later and tearfully apologized to the homeowner for their son's behavior.

Maybe they should pass a law banning break-ins. Surely another law on the books making it illegal would work.

Yeah, it was a Luger. German army issue, too... Don't think that Mr. Ricciutti is ever going to see *that* again...

Question:

Had he used a Garand to club this goblin to death...Would the CSGV still place it as a 'gun death' statistic?
