Stupid People Doing Stupid Things...

NH Man Accused Of Shooting Out SUV’s Window In Road Rage Incident
DOVER, N.H. (CBS) – A man has been arrested in connection with a road rage incident that happened on the Spaulding Turnpike in New Hampshire a month ago.

Police say 42-year-old Roderick Woodward used a BB gun to shoot out the back window of a white Ford SUV back on March 29th.
Are you kidding me? You shot out a car's window with a BB gun? What are you, thirteen years old? The woman whose window was shot suspects road rage - the suspect had been driving erratically and was apparently upset that she had passed him. So when she took her exit off the highway, he shot her window out with a pellet gun.

If found guilty, he'll have a felony conviction, and rightfully so - that's the kind of stupid stunt that could get someone injured or worse. Had she panicked when the window broke, she could have rolled that SUV pretty easily. She could have swerved back into traffic. Heck, this is NH - they could have returned fire.

Which brings up an interesting thought question. How would you handle something like that? Personally, I'd hightail it away from the highway as quickly as possible, while dialing 911 and retrieving my carry piece just in case the guy was following me. I've been in a car that's had the window shot out, and you cannot tell what was being shot at you (it turned out to be a BB gun, just like in this case). All you know is that someone just shot at you, and let me tell you, it gets the adrenaline going but good...

Let's hope this nitwit learns his lesson - but I wouldn't put money on it...

That is all.

You got 3 hands? Even with an automatic transmission thats tough to juggle all that.

Drive and dial. You aren't clearing leather unless you're stopped anyway.

It's a sequence of events:

1. Get away.
2. Call 911
3. Prepare.

I would just use my knees to steer.

I'm with Jay. Step 1 is to escape. The order of the next two steps depends on whether or not step 1 worked. In this case, where the assailant is in a vehicle, it may be a while before you know if it did.

My brother was involved in an incident many years ago where an irate driver forced him off the road late at night. Fortunately the guy was only interested in shouting and didn't do anything physical, but given the hour and the location outside of town, he could have killed my brother and never been caught.

Throwing your truck in reverse and attempting to set off the other guys airbags is another viable option. Disables his car and punches him in the face.

Wouldn't try it with a car, though.

Speaking from personal experience, I can confidently state that an exploding window may cause quite the adrenalin dump and that driving 25 miles home at 10 degrees without a rear window tests the ability of the car heater. The sympathetic but amused policeman said the .22-sized hole was probably from a bb. Then the window fell into the back seat...

I'd get away, then call the cops. Unless it was in some of the really rural areas out here (eastern NM for example), when I'd evade, get my "road insurance" out and ready, and then try to call the law. There are some places I've been through where I'd be worried about two-legged coyotes and meth-heads as much as about your basic road-rage a-hole.
