House Burglaries Baffle Staff, Police
Go read about whose offices were broken into. There's a definitive, err, political leaning to the offices that were burgled. Now, they're not certain if any documents or other sensitive materials were taken, but a whole bunch of electronics and cash went missing. Thieves grabbed not just office electronics but also personal devices left inside, memorabilia, and even someone's private stash of hooch.Puzzling break-ins over the last month at the offices of at least three House members and several committees have U.S. Capitol Police gumshoes working to find a pattern and the culprits, with missing items ranging from cash and expensive computer equipment to autographed baseballs and alcohol. In at least four of the cases, thieves broke into the offices at night when doors were locked, leading some staffers to believe they were victims of an inside job.
Now, it may be 100% coincidence that the only House members named were Republicans; it's hard to say. They might just all have offices close to an entrance. What's interesting is that this is an allegedly secure building - these are locked offices in a locked building - yet someone was able to waltz in and break into these offices. The political affiliation is mentioned only in passing - it's left as an exercise to the reader how circumspect the media would have been had all break-ins occurred in Democrat offices.
I do hope this turns out to be just a simple break-in - it would be refreshing to see someone steal from our congresscritters instead of the other way around for a change...
That is all.

Not buying the coincidence one bit.

The missing goods are just a red herring. The breakins were really conducted to plant bugging devices.
Ain't payback a b***h?
(I was going to say "plant mind control devices" until I remembered whose offices they were.)
Dave H beat me to it.
Oh, and the victims have to pay for the stolen items, too.
"House rules require members to personally pay a fee as well as take the replacement cost out of their office stipends when equipment is stolen but they can apply for a waiver and if its approved they need not pay. Almost a month after the incident, the chief administrative officer notified Gowdy that he had to cut a personal check totaling $763.63 payable to the U.S. Treasury as a penalty."
Quick, someone send an officer to check Gordon Liddy's whereabouts and alibi the nights of the crimes!
Conyers and Hoyer are both Democrats (unindicted).
Break ins while doors are locked mean nothing. Most security is pathetic and any reasonably smart person can figure out how to get past a lock. Look up "bump key". All you need is a key and a screwdriver and you're in.
