So I ran out to the Super Walmart not 3 miles away to grab some provisions (read: more beer), and lo and behold, I learned something. WI is *far* more logical about the sale of alcohol than either MA *or* NH. You can buy hard liquor right off the shelf of your local WalMart here in WI...
The downside? Why, this, of course:
Yes, that is what you think it is: generic WalMart rum... The bottle is plastic; it looks very much like a Listerine bottle. I could only guess, but I suspect Listerine tastes better with Coke, too...
Caveat Emptor, indeed.

Hey Marooned...You were right in my neighborhood! I grew up in Lake Delton. Lake Delton is the place every body thinks is Wisconsin Dells.
We also had a family reunion this past weekend. Hope we didn't keep you awake....

When I lived in Ohio (mumble) years ago the Big Bear supermarket stores were selling what they called "un-brand" products. (Everybody else called them "generic" - plain white packaging with black printing.) Their un-brand red wine was surprisingly good for $3 a bottle. The $8 rum next to it, not so much.
Heh, you know there are other places to buy alcohol other than Walmart, even in WI. And even Walmart sells name brand firewater - Caviar Emperor or somesuch :P
BTW, as far as I know the rules for booze sales are 7 days a week, 8am-9pm, 21 and older.

Not that us ol' Sailors know much about taking off- brand Liker's and making up some Adult Beverages for a Picnic or a Luau or other Social Gatherings, nosireebob. ; )
Bet it would be a better gun cleaner than drink mix.

You can buy liquor in grocery stores in Ohio, but it's not the real stuff. It's only 40 proof.
When I as out in AZ for work, Walmart sold liquor in its stores there. They had a surprisingly good selection considering some of the low end junk they sell.

You can't even buy real beer in the grocery stores here. It 3.2 max.
WI is good for booze laws, I do think it is the law that if you sell gasoline you must also sell beer there.
Had 'discount store' Scotch in high school (a friend's older bro bought it for us).

OK...here in the Soverign State of Arizona, I can buy anything up to and including Everclear at any WalMart, grocery store or convenience store. I can do this any day of the week, at any time except between the hours of 0200 and 0600.
I vaguely remember not being able to do that, when I lived in Minnesota, which sounds frighteningly similar to this "Massachusetts" you speak of. That's one of a thousand reasons I moved to America.
In Brookfield, WI (where I used to live) there was an elementary school right in the middle of our neighborhood. And right next door to the elementary school was a bar. Having been raised in the deep south, that absolutely blew me away.

Here in Madison's Sam's Club ya usta be able to buy .22 by the pallet and there were kevlar vests on display. Man, I'm glad I moved outta Illinois...
