TSA to fire bag screeners at Logan Airport
BOSTON (WHDH) -- The TSA said it has moved to fire six luggage screeners at Logan Airport who never hand inspected bags because they were distracted by their cellphones and other electronic devices.
The TSA said 14 others face suspension for not paying attention while on duty.That's 20 people who were supposed to be looking for dangerous items in luggage going on airplanes that were not doing their job - correction, that's 20 that they caught. How many countless others were posting on Facebook, sexting their significant other, or chatting with their local freelance pharmaceutical distributor when they should have been checking for bombs and such?
I guess we should be happy they were fired - I'm pretty sure this is a union gig, and it's next-to-impossible to get someone out if they don't want to go. Now, it's possible that this is a stepping stone to something larger - like federalizing the baggage handling force, because I would put nothing past these people. It would not surprise me in the least to see more of these stories pop up, followed by a push to make the baggage handlers part of TSA so there's a reason to hire more agents...
I mean, how bad is it when the TSA fires your ass???
That is all.

If they're sexting, they're not rifling through other people's S#¡+ stealing whatever little shineys catch their eye...
PRetty F'ing bad... sigh
Heard the ATF in Phoenix needs some new Agents to "Walk some Guns..."
I think Cormac has a point -- might be better to fire the ones who are checking bags. {grin}
Wonder if Rob Pincus still appreciates the security theater.
