Close, But No Cigar...

A whole bunch of folks sent this story in, with some suggesting that it add to the DGC:

Ellis County Homeowner Exchanges Gunfire With Intruders
Authorities have confirmed that the two people fatally shot in Ellis County during a violent home invasion Wednesday were two teenagers wanted in Oklahoma.
The Pottawatomie County, Okla., Sheriff's Office confirmed late Wednesday night that Kenneth Chaffin, 17, and Dillon King, 18, were killed south of Maypearl.
Now, some stories called the two men "runaways"; I have a hard time thinking of a 17 year old - who could, with parental permission, join the Armed Forces - as a "runaway". Anyways, it appears they stole a bunch of firearms, ammunition, and prescription medicine from one of the boys' fathers, and headed south into Texas. They attempted to break into a ranch in Texas, apparently forgetting the simple fact that folks in Texas tend to be both armed and really adamant about not letting armed intruders in.

It doesn't count as a DGC because even though the homeowner wounded the two attackers, they were dispatched by self-inflicted gunshots. While it's a great DGU - and certainly an example of why we need full capacity magazines to defend ourselves - it doesn't qualify as a DGC. It's certainly fortunate that the homeowner had the presence of mind to grab his firearm, because two young men, one with suspected gang ties, who had already stolen a bunch of firearms and drugs, are not exactly the most rational forces in the universe. It's entirely possible this would have been a killing spree had the homeowner not been armed.

And we see something that is a frequent hallmark of the impulse shooter - when confronted with armed resistance, they quickly gave up and took their own lives. In this case, though, it wasn't the police showing up that caused the goblins to give up; it was armed resistance from the intended victims. Armed resistance that the forces against freedom insist we not be allowed to present - or at least not have the most effective tools with which to deal with the situation at hand.

At least in this case the victim selection process was flawed and no innocent people were hurt...

That is all.

I don't know why they are even calling this a "Shootout." It's OBVIOUS that the Homeowner leaned out the Window with his Double-Barreled Shotgun loaded with Birdshot, pulled the Trigger and scared the Poor Misunderstood Youths so much that they Committed Suicide with all those Weapons of Mass Destruction that should have been BANNED in the First Place!

Goblin + Dead = Dead Goblin. ;)

How about a "Hoist by their own petard" Goblin count?

In any case, they will not pass their bad genes on to another generation.

Darwin for the win!

I'm not even sure they shot themselves on purpose. From what I'm hearing they weren't the sharpest crayons in the box.
