Florida bill would require anger management courses for bullet buyers
A Florida legislator wants anyone trying to buy ammunition to complete an anger management program first, in what critics say is the latest example of local lawmakers reaching for constitutionally-dubious solutions to the problem of gun violence.
The bill filed Saturday by state Sen. Audrey Gibson, D-Jacksonville, would require a three-day waiting period for the sale of any firearm and the sale of ammunition to anyone who has not completed anger management courses. The proposal would require ammo buyers to take the anger management courses every 10 years.Right. Because remedial driver's ed for repeat drunk drivers has solved that problem, right? This is another hair-brained scheme thought up by a lightweight that would be laughed at if it was proposed for any other of our constitutionally enumerated rights. Just try passing a law that says you need to go to college before you can express an opinion on the government. I guarantee you the ACLU would trip over themselves filing lawsuits.
But because it's about EWW ICKY GUNS, they sure seem to be infringing away, aren't they?
On its very face it is deeply offensive. Millions of gun owners manage to safely and securely own guns without ever harming another soul, yet this screeching harridan has us all lumped in with Travis Bickle. Isn't that lovely? How positively ... tolerant. Simply because you own guns, you're a dangerous lunatic with anger management issues. Imagine that. A quaint stereotype perpetuated by Hollywood and not rooted in reality.
One wonders if this woman thinks Scots are cheap and all Mormons have multiple wives?
It's far more telling about her world view, isn't it? If you own a gun, in her twisted, stunted mind, you obviously must have a mental defect that requires counseling. Never mind that it's a Constitutionally enumerated right. Never mind that there are thousands, if not millions, of gun owners who own guns simply because they like to hunt, or are avid target shooters, or even just enjoy plinking. No, you must want a gun because you have problems with anger management, you knuckle-dragging cousin-humper.
If it wasn't so serious, it would be laughable. If this were one lone representative in New York or California or Massachusetts, she'd be easy to shrug off as YATB*. But coming from Florida, of all places? I know, I know, even Texas has pockets of moonbattery and all that, but still... It's disheartening to see someone that has to answer to constituents posing such an insulting and inflammatory bill - because just like Marion Barry, Mumbles Menino, and Ray Nagin, she'll be re-elected despite her idiocy.
And despite her rampant prejudice and bigotry, too...
That is all.

It's sad but not only are we Floridians the unfortunate recipients of many of the loons (and lousy drivers) from the nanny states of new yawk new joisey and taxachussets. We have a few loons criminals and nannys of our own such as debbie wasserman schultz, alcee hastings and audrey gibson.
I fear that they wish to change our state motto from the Gunshine state to something more palatable to them.
Perhaps the Republicans could introduce a bill requiring a mandatory mental health check for anyone voting Democrat . . . . ? Just sayin' - afterall, which is more dangerous - a bullet or a Democrat??
Florida is also Erin Palette land...
and how is it that I am STILL not on your blogroll???
It *is* Erin Palette land as well.
You are not on the 'roll for one reason and one reason only: Blogger sucks.
My blogroll has gotten to the point where it is so large I cannot edit it any more. At some point I am going to have to streamline it and/or break it into chunks.
I think we need to figure out a way to regulate these high-capacity assault politicians.
Sen. Audrey Gibson, D-Jacksonville.
Her district encompasses parts of Jacksonville you would only go armed ... in an APC ... with air cover.
Oh sure, there are a few nice parts put someone has to pay taxes to support the rest.
Obviously, you have not been to Jacksonville, Florida lately....
Perhaps instead she should propose that voters in her district be required to take anger management classes? Because if she represented my district, I would be calling for her recall and actively working to ensure that she never held public office again.
Then again, it is easier for a Boston citizen to obtain a Florida out-of-state resident Concealed Weapon or Firearm License than it is for the Boston citizen to obtain a Massachusetts "A" License to Carry Firearms. Take the required course on safety and Florida firearms law (including the safe firing of at least one round), get fingerprinted, get a passport style photo, sign the application and submit that application package and the fee to the Florida Department of Agriculture and 90 days later you either get the five year license valid in over 32 states or they state in writing why it did not happen. What about the Massachusetts out-of-state "A" LTC? Good for one year and requires a state-scheduled appointment for an interview before issuing, and even then it is "may" issue. Why? Because it appears that the entire Massachusetts Legislature is comprised of people with the same mindset as this representative from Jacksonville. It appears that the "disease" is spreading.
It appears that the "disease" is spreading.
Which aptly demonstrates the difference between "Yankee" and "Damn Yankee."
A better thing would be requiring you to take a class and prove financial responsibility before using your gonads. "Gun violence" may take lives and leave unpaid medical bills, but when Ice Dog or Ray Ray decides to shoot his dick off, it simultaneously creates lives, destroys lives and costs the citizenry many times what "gun violence" does, especially if these two fine, upstanding citizens shoot into multiple receptacles.
My method of "stress management" is a day at the range.
Half the credit for this idea belongs to ThotPolice, but if that were to be passed, someone should set up that (a range day) as one of the choices for the officially endorsed "anger management" class. I'd bet it'd be the most popular, and full every single time it was offered.
