Friday Gun Pr0n #311

While I was tempted to post some Mosin-Nagant gun pr0n for today (as Brad_in_MA pointed, the 7.62X54mmR projectile is 0.311"), I got an e-mail from the head of the BLNN himself, Les:

Hey Jay.  I'd like to submit the new revolver I picked up this past weekend at the Medina, Ohio Gun Show. But being an Ardent Capitalist, I decided to take advantage of the Panic Buying and worked the Gun Show at my buddy's tables.  The Ammo sales were going well, and I needed to get enough to buy another .357 revolver for my Nephew in Afghanistan (separate story).   

So I'm talking to a Customer at the Tables, and I notice a Revolver dangling from his hand.  I asked to see it.  He handed over a Smith and Wesson Model 28 Highway Patrolman.  I asked him how much he paid for it, and he said he was Selling it, not that he just bought it.  I asked how much he wanted.  He said "Well, I've been showing it around, and all I've been getting was $200.  But I want $400.  Similar ones are going for that at least on Gun Broker, and I've seen two here at the show with $600+ tags on them.  So I'm not giving it away."  I handed it over to a friend who was with us who's a Gunsmith, and he checked it out.  We looked at each other, I looked at my Buddy who had the Tables, and said "Give the Man $400. Trust me."  So the deal was made.  

Now, it has a lot of Holster wear, and one can see that it was mostly shot with .38 Special.  But from it's Serial Number (214XXX), it was made in 1960-61, back in the hey day of Quality Revolvers. Now here's the Icing on the Cake.  To be Legal under Ohio Law, we had to exchange Driver's Licenses to verify we were both of Legal Age and from Ohio.  AND THAT'S IT.  NO 4473 forms, No Background Checks, NO Calling into NICS, NO Permission from a Sheriff or Police Chief, No FOID.  Just Two Guys engaged in Commerce, using our RKBA in a Free State, w/o Gooberment Interference.

But enough talk. Onto the gun!

Man, there's nothing quite like a Smith & Wesson .357 Magnum revolver, there really isn't. That's probably why I have four of them, at least one in each size they come in. Les got himself a right good deal there; the model 28 is a perennial favorite and - as an N-frame revolver firing even .357 Magnum, it'll last pretty much forever (there's that "durable goods" thing again). I've got a Model 27, the blued version with the target set up, and it's one of my very favorite pistols.
