Arlington Man Arraigned In Home Invasion Involving Off-Duty Officer

ARLINGTON (CBS) – Joseph Maloof refused to be seen in front of cameras during his arraignment Wednesday in Cambridge District Court.

Prosecutors say he broke into the home of an off-duty Arlington police officer Tuesday afternoon.

Yeah, I guess if I was dumb enough to try to break into the home of a police officer, I wouldn't want to show my face in court, either... Apparently the police officer came down after hearing banging on his door and observed our brainless wonder standing in front of his apartment holding a bat asking for "John". Upon catching sight of the officer's service firearm, he proceeded to do his best Jesse Owens impression but was caught a few blocks away.

Moment of ire#1: This is in Massachusetts, which prides itself on the "common sense gun laws". The average gun owner in MA would need to have his low-capacity weapon locked up while Joe Dumbass pounds on the door with a bat - not so much for the Only Ones. Not only do police officers get to have standard capacity magazines, but we've seen several cases where cops who have left their duty weapons unsecured have not been charged under the "safe storage" laws.

Moment of ire#2: This dude has three other criminal cases pending - meaning this is #4. And he was released on $2,500 bail. He's breaking and entering, threatening people with a weapon, has been caught doing so repeatedly, and yet he is OUT ON THE STREET for less than the price of a decent used car. This is justice?

Massachusetts: You're more likely to get a slap on the wrist here.
