California county administrator to get $423,644 a year -- after retirement
When local California official Susan Muranishi retires from her job in a couple of years, she’s going to be walking away with a fat paycheck -- $423,664 a year – for the rest of her life.
Muranishi, an Alameda County administrator, makes $301,000 in annual base pay. But in addition to that, the San Francisco Chronicle reports she'll also receive:
- $24,000 in “equity pay” to make sure she makes at least 10 percent more than anyone else in the county, even in retirement.
- An annual performance bonus of $24,000, even in retirement.
- Another $9,000 a year for serving on the county’s three-member Surplus Property Authority, even in retirement.
- $54,000 a year in “longevity” pay for having stayed with the county for more than 30 years, even in retirement.
First off, WHAT THE F**KING F**K is a "County Administrator" doing making $300K a year? Isn't that the "wealthiest one percent" we keep hearing the Democrats drone on about every election cycle??? My wife and I combined don't make half of that, and we both have advanced degrees. Why, that's CEO-type salary, isn't it? That's "evil rich" territory - at least according to those who supported letting the Bush tax cuts expire, right? What the bloody hell does this person do that warrants a salary of more than a quarter of a million dollars a year?
And she's going to get MORE than that in retirement? Including performance bonuses AFTER SHE RETIRES??? California just a short while ago was issuing IOUs in lieu of bill payment, and yet petty bureaucrats are pulling down more money than CEOs? For what? Running the state into receivership? Is there some sort of perverse race to see just how fast and hard the state can crash, and how big of a financial crater they make?
It is positively mind-boggling that allegedly public employees can broker these kinds of sweetheart deals, especially in these tough financial times. For the past 40 years - nearly my entire lifetime, this person has been working for the county, slowly but surely building a lovely little portfolio for herself all the while smug in the knowledge that she's one of the "protected class" of politicians that will very likely wind up with a platinum parachute.
Wonder how many small business owners she derided as evil rich people the last couple of election cycles?
That is all.

Performance bonus after retirement?
This suggests that the average work quality of the position *increased* after the retiree left.
Hmmm.
I'm still trying to understand how she managed to get a guarantee that she will always be the highest paid and then dare to call it equity pay!!!! No doubt with that kind of longjevity she knows where ALL the bodies are buried

Dang, in Illinois you have to be the wife of a senator to get a public sector job like that.
Come on Jay, everybody knows the government has to pay top dollar so they can attract the "best and brightest".
Of course, someone could make the argument she's smarter than the rest of us to figure out how to get a sweetheart deal like this.
Totally disgusting. And yet, probably far from unique.
As I was reading this, I immediately thought, this has to be the brightest women in California! She has managed to guarantee a retirement from a county position that will pay her well for as long as she lives. Who else has managed that in California?
Heck, Californias Governor only made $173,000 last year! Her BASE pay is better than his by $125,000, and her real pay is more than twice his!
That is one smart woman, and some REALLY dumb voters!
I'm assuming county pay is determined by a county Board of Directors. 30 years in Alameda county management probably gets you knowledge of a LOT of bodies in the closet!
