Little league raffles off AR-15 rifle to raise money
A youth baseball league in Illinois is raffling off an AR-15 military-style assault weapon to raise money for its kids.
The Atwood-Hammond group partnered with the local armory for the raffle, which launched on Tuesday. "It has been going gangbusters," Charidy Butcher, co-owner of the Atwood Armory, told RawStory.com. “My phone has been ringing nonstop since 4:30 this morning. It’s just been crazy."Oh, sure, just because the Little League's fundraiser last year only raised $10, and the last fundraiser that the gun shop participated in raised $7,000, well, that's no reason to ZOMG GUNS AND KIDS. Complete with the obligatory reference to Newtown, CT, natch. This is apparently part of the AP style sheet now - any time there is any mention to any rifle that bears even a passing resemblance to an AR-15, a reference to Newtown must be made.
The cognitive dissonance in this article is just amazing. They're simultaneously dismissive of the use of a rifle in a raffle for a Little League, yet report that a similar raffle made thousands of dollars for a cancer patient. There's no connection made between the desirability of the AR-15 platform and why it might make such a great raffle item whatsoever; apparently there's this magic vacuum by which this ZOMG EVIL BLACK ASSAULT RIFLE BULLET CLIP GUN draws thousands of dollars in raffle tickets. Thousands of dollars. Raffle tickets being bought in states thousands of miles away.
Yet there's no use for the AR-15, and no one wants them -- at least, that's what the New York Times would like you to think.
That is all.

As I posted elsewhere:
I saw this, and the first comment I saw was: “OH MY GOD! I coach soccer here. If my club did that, I’d have no choice but to tender my resignation. This just baffles me.”
I just *had* to post: “OMG!! I coach lacrosse here! If my club did that, I’d have no choice but to buy 10 tickets and hope I could find ammo for it if I somehow won it!”
Little League, good cause, buying a ticket or two myself, it's for the children after all.
Jay,
You forgot to include ZOMG WITH THE SHOULDER THING THAT GOES UP.

For the children!
That phrase works both ways.
"An AR-15 MILITARY STYLE assault weapon"???
That must mean it's capable of full auto! Wow!
Either that, or a journalist just demonstrated that he doesn't know how to talk about guns.
Hmm. Which is more likely, I wonder?
Oh, wow!! I nearly missed the best two words in your summary, Jay.
They are "in Illinois".
Mayor Emmanuel, eat your heart out.
