Question: What does Jay have in common with Borepatch, Lissa, and Bruce?
Answer: Leaving the Volksrepublik of MA.
I have accepted a job down in VA (Yes, I am moving to another commonwealth; however this one is significantly less, ahem, bolshevik-oriented) and will be starting next month. Details forthcoming; let's just say that if you were to design my dream job, this would come awfully close. We'll be working to sell the house in MA in the coming months (remind me; I have a whole bunch of guns for sale BTW), and the family will be joining me in VA once the house sells and we find a new place to live in Free America.
Words cannot express how happy I am about this turn of events.
The next few months are going to be a blurred jumble of crazy. I'm trying to find temporary lodging in VA while we sell the house so I don't have to sleep in the truck at night; we're scrambling to get the house ready to show/sell; we've also started looking at real estate in the NoVA area. LOTS going on. For the foreseeable future I'll be in VA and heading back to MA on weekends; it'll put a bunch of miles on the Earthf**ker (or get me some frequent flier miles), but I gotta see the fam (and help with the frantic packing!). I'll be the advance scout in VA for real estate when we start looking for homes, too.
I'm still trying to decide if the first thing I want to buy is a new 40-round Pmag or a Ruger BX-25...
Oh, and when do we start planning the next NoVA blog shoot?
That is all.

I need to go pack a box. Should I just address it:
GENERAL DELIVERY
HOLD FOR JAY G
SOMEWHERE IN VA
?
Seriously, congratz on the escape plan!
This was the first thing that popped into my head when I read your news.
Congrats, and good luck!
K
So the name of the blog is now "Va-Rooned?" :D
Congrats to you, sir! Hope the scouting mission is successful and timely for all of you. ;)
After the morning I've had, this is some freaking awesome news.
Congratulations man! Welcome to FreeAmerica!
You've told me before that you'd never leave MA because your wife didnt want to be away from her family. What changed?
Congratulations, Jay.
Does this mean that you'll need to start a new blog? VA-rooned? Yeah, doesn't have the same ring to it.
You're going to have to change the name of the 'blog.
Dream job. As in once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
And VA is an easy day's drive if needed, plus we're close to major airports...
Congratulations!
Well ... there is that flintlock shoot next month. :-)
Congrats on the escape plan. I hope to have the same type of opportunity to escape CA. One question tho, why are you selling the guns?
Some are being sold because they're rare in MA and I want others to have them.
Others simply because they're redundant and I could use the $$$ for the move...
Will be posting in the near future.
Jay,
Depending on the part of VA, you could be next to DC. Make it a priority to do a blog-pic / blog post with Emily Miller.
I think you should change the blog name from MA-rooned to Escaped !!
Brad
Well my friend, I was really hoping you would be moving NORTH, not south, but congrats anyway on the great escape. New England is sure gonna miss our community organizer, but our loss is VA's gain.
Oh, I've already been in touch with Doubletrouble.
There *WILL* be a Seventh Annual Northeast Bloggershoot. No worries.
I'll just be able to bring up a *NEW* AR with a bayonet next year.
Congratulations Jay. Glad you're finally getting out of there.
Awesome! I look forward to having you around.
Greetings from Richmond!
Congrats Jay!
Maybe "VA-roomed" for the blog. Depending on job location and commute, check out Fredricksburg and environs. Far enough away from the madness of DC to feel country.
Well done sir. Traffic is just as bad but the drivers are a bit more polite.
Gerry
Mixed feelings here old chap. Maybe the new firm will transfer you to NH after a while?
But good for you and for the G clan, you will be sorely missed, that's for sure.
Maybe now I can get you off to an Appleseed! You will be closer to a lot of shoots. Welcome to the (one of the others)Commonwealth.
Congratulations! Glad to see you moving to a free state!
It's a shame you're heading to the northern end rather than down here to SW VA, but I suspect it's still a massive improvement. :)
Even better, there's no paperwork or bureaucracy associated with bringing your arsenal into the state. Just drive them in!
Also, maybe "Escaped!" for the new blog name?
Holy Moly, there's hope for us all.
And +1 for VA-Roomed.
Congrats!
Get the family out of there ASAP before the state puts them in 'protective custody' to ensure your return!
Congratulations! Hopefully you can help balance out the influx of demos moving into VA for the govie jobs.
Congratulations! Fantastic news
Hey - we'll almost be neighbors!!
:)
Congrats Jay on the job and the move...
(from your new neighbor - NC)
+1 on VA-roomed.
Congratulations Jay! I also vote for changing the blog to VA-Roomed. Just reading the almost breathless tone of your post, I could tell you're firing on all twelve cylinders. Vaaaa-roooooom!
"For the foreseeable future I'll be in VA and heading back to MA on weekends;"
I resemble that remark... I'm putting mondo miles on the CRV while trying to find a telecom job in VT. So I head back to MA for 4 days a week. :( And head back to paradise on Thursday nights.
Seriously, congrats on your escape, my friend. If you ever want to head up north with the bike, remember I'm near some PRIME riding roads!
Ross
VA-Moosed! Welcome to the open carry commonwealth of Virginia! Give me a shout if you make it down to Williamsburg.
Welcome to the land of the free, even if still spied upon!
Congrats!!!!!
As you know we live in Va please. please let us know if we can help in anyway(seriously)
Mooi man!
Knew it

Enjoy :D
Congratulations,and welcome to the South.
Give a big 'YeeHaw' as you cross the Mason-Dixon line.
Congrats on the pending escape!
I'm still trying to decide if the first thing I want to buy is a new 40-round Pmag or a Ruger BX-25...
Neither. You'll be wanting the Ruger BX-25 x2.... ;-)
I left California for Montana years ago. I didn't even wait for my permanent drivers license to make my first MT firearms purchase but used the paper temp. I prefer any purchase to not be on the CA safe gun list. Bonus points for extra "unsafe" features.
Congrats Jay! Enjoy the new found freedom!
Congrats Jay! Speaking as a local here, if at all possible move just outside the Fairfax county lines. Just being in the county is much more expensive than anywhere outside it. Make sure you stop by Sharpshooters sometime too.
Congratulations, Jay.
Welcome to free America, Jay!
Greetings and Welcome to Virginia.
I can highly recommend Fredericksburg, where we have no less than 5 high quality ranges within driving distance; we have massive gun shows on a regular basis, and the NRA Firearms Museum is a nice little jaunt up I-95.

Congratulations! A dream job is a fine thing to find!
Living quarters in VA while things settle out? You have a travel trailer as I recall... may I suggest taking a look at-
http://www.rvparkreviews.com/
Monthly rates are fairly low at a lot of RV parks.
First amigo... CONGRATULATIONS! Sometime after you get all settled in, I'll do a road trip to VA. No worries about a mandatory year in the klink via MA shittery.
Second. For temp lodging, believe it or not, Craigslist can be a great resource. Topmost of CL's screen, center column, 3rd item down, is "sublets/temporary". Give that a daily scan, you might find a great solution there.
Third, and finally, what's #1 on your Free to Own gun list? Inquiring minds wanna know!
Jim
Sunk New Dawn
Galveston, TX
YES!
Out-freaking-standing!!!!!
Welcome to the free world!
And now I have to make plans to go up to NOVA or have you visit Richmond!
Btw...all the VA bloggers on this thread need to get together and plan something as a welcome!
If something can be set up, Cargosquid AT aol DOT com.
JayG first, S&W next...
;-)
Thank GOD, finally....
Now, get a commuter motorcycle and join the iron butt club.
Awesome bro! Congrats!
Jay, Congrats on the job..
Envy on getting back to the USA.
Eck!
Damn glad to hear this and welcome to the south.
I'm glad you're moving to American-occupied America, Jay! Congratulations!
This calls for...
YEAHHHHH!!!!
I live in woodbridge va. Welcome to the land of open carry, guns in bars, no rosters or waiting periods or anything! Plus besides new hampshire, we do have the best state motto ever. =)
Congrads!
Congrats on the escape, now if i know about a VA area shoot more then two days before, i can head up(SC is not that far) and get a wheel or two in the snubby from hell.
once again congrats on both the escape and dream job.
Jay, Congradulations!!! Welcome to the real America!
Good for you!
I'm still stuck in MD, but someday soon I'll follow your excellent example.
Congratulations on finally escaping. Now that we are settled in NC, we might have to work out a meet.
A great disturbance in the Force was felt today. For the Good.
Congrats, holler if you need help, and looking forward to more shoots!
Congrats. Just don't go crazy with the Beta C-mags!!
Congratulations to you and the family. I wish you the best of luck in your new venture.
Some suggestions for your new blog name:
VA-cated
VA-cation
VA-cationland
VA-gabond
VA-moosed
...and my favorite that fits you well:
VA-liant
All the best,
Glenn B
Way to go, Jay!
I'm gonna miss you, buddy. But you'll be a lot happier - and I'm sure your family will be too. Your happiness is important to them.
I'll look forward to seeing what you have to sell. And let's try to get folks together for an off-season meetup, to give you a proper send-off!
Congrats!
Can't you use the camper temporarily until you have things set?
And Major Kudos and congrats!!
... and another one over the wall (as Geek w a .45 would say)
Congratulations, with Kali tears in my eyes.
"The Chair Is Against the Wall, The Chair Is Against the Wall, John Has a Long Moustache, John Has a Long Moustache"
Great news!! I'm still stuck in Illinois for the foreseeable future but we're turning the tide here.
I will offer a virtual boost over the wall.
Congrats Jay!
Still stuck in Cal, still fighting the good fight.
Congrats!
For a new blog name I'm thinking:
ma-rooned-no-mo.com or
ma-rooned-no-more.com
cerberus65
Congrats, you're almost there. NoVa is a lot like Boston but without the lobster.
It's not a NoVa shoot you want. Come on down to SWVa, the Blue Ridge area. We've got a lot more room for shooting.
If one of the earlier comments doesn't mention it, you'll want to look into the VCDL - Va Citizens Defense League.
michaeldgale
Bout effing time...
I'll second both of Anon@0718's suggestions.
Of course, I'm a bit biased on the SWVA bit, since that means less driving for me.
Congrats!
But leave your Yankee Attitude behind.
Things are Different down in Free America.
Trust me. Been there, done that.
Oh, and you might want to rethink what you wish to sell off. Obviously, the "Mass Compliant" stuff needs to left behind for those who are still stuck, but the rest of them, well, there's a lot of Fine Gun Shows down there.
BTW, 8 hour drive to the North Coast from NoVa. ; )
Les,
I suspect that a true "Yankee" attitude would go over rather well. It's the elitist Northeast liberal attitude that won't - and I don't think I have to worry about that.
As for selling off, just wait a few more minutes. I've got a list posting... *grin*
Eight hours? I'm looking at 8 1/2 hours from where I'm looking to Indianapolis. I've got a little under 6 hours to Cleveland... ;)
Oh, and if I skirt around MD, I can CC the entire trip to Indy on a VA toter's permit...
I escaped Kali in 96. Mark my words, you'll feel like a North Korean refugee in a Walmart.
Congrats Jay G. The Commonwealth can always use folks like you.
Congrats - always thought you would escape up this way, but you gotta take whatever you find. And, if it fits the description of a dream job - all the better. And, you will get to ride the bike longer in the year - double bonus!!!
Congratulations, Jay!
I lived in Maryland for 10 years, from 1990 to 2000. Then I moved to Texas.
Rarely, even now 13 years later, does a day go by that I don't thank God above for where I live now, compared to where I lived then.
I hope, and strongly believe, that your experience will be similar.
Many congratulations, my budddy over in Wilbraham is also lookign for an out, he's going galt and closing his company.
Lesson One:
The World was created in 1607.
Freedom was written and won by Virginians. OK, Adams and Franklin helped a bit.
The War (other wars are specified) was fought in, by and for Virginia.
The Holy Trinity is LEE, Stewart and Jackson.
Info on local gun stores/ranges via e-mail.
Congratulations and good luck!
With guts and determination you are un VA-nquishable!
(sorry, got a bit excited there. My CA plan isn't in place yet.
Congrats and Welcome to Free America !!!
NOVA ain't truly Virginia; it is considered occupied territory and I am in favor of pushing the whole rotten mess into the Potomac. Enjoy your horrible traffic and overpriced housing up north, but then again if you are coming from the volksrepublic of Massachusetts, not really a change. :-P
Wow, be away from the interwebs for a day or two and you miss a ton. Congratulations Jay!
Unless somebody already said this, wouldn't it suck to move to VA and then have Terry McAuliffe elected as governor?
Congrats, Jay! And welcome to NOVA. Definitely a change from Mass.
Great news, even tho you're moving to Occupied VA rather than Real VA. In any event, it's not "welcome to Free America" -- it's just "Welcome to America". And you're right about the true Yankee attitude versus the Northeast Coast Libtard attitude.
Congrats Jay! On the job and the move.
Well done. Perhaps now I can visit my civilly-joined partner, now and again. ;)
Congratulations from N.C., Fleeing Massachusetts is indeed worth celebrating.
Two things for when you make the jump to NOVA:
Contact me (if you so desire) at nvguyusa AT yahoo dot com. I moved here (from Maryland) in 1976. Be happy to meet you and fill you in on some of the local eateries.
Join VCDL - the Virginia equivalent of the NRA (but much, much better). Check them out at www.vcdl.org and sign up for the free newsletter.
As one who himself escaped from one of the 13 original colonies, now a mockery of America, I bid you glad tidings and the best of luck!So psyched for you!
Outstanding!
Out damn standing.........
I am so late to this party! I didn't realize you were moving until I was listening to last week's Squirrel Report.
Congratulations on the new job, the move to Free America, and guns with adjustable/folding stocks.
You'll have to come down to North Carolina to visit the new Ruger plant. It is in a county that borders VA.
Let me be among the last to congratulate you. That's what happens when I have a life and don't read enough.
I'm really happy for you, even though I'm very jealous at the same time.
I've been to the general area of VA where you are moving and it's beautiful down there. I know you and the G family will love it.
If you have any 3" S&W revolvers you're selling, email me.
