WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama on Sunday memorialized the victims of the Washington Navy Yard shooting by urging Americans not to give up on a transformation in gun laws that he argued are to blame for an epidemic of violence. "There is nothing inevitable about it — it comes about because of decisions we make or fail to make," Obama said. Now, the Washington Navy Yard shooting was accomplished by a pump-action shotgun. This is technology that is rapidly approaching 150 years old, and has not been included on any gun control measure proposed in the past, oh, *ever*. Magazine capacity was not an issue. Removable magazines were not an issue. Bayonet lugs were not an issue. President Obama wants us to "obsess" over gun control based on a firearm that is one of the most ubiquitous in American culture, the pump-action shotgun.
Reprising his role of the nation's consoler in chief after yet another mass shooting, Obama issued a call to action on gun control measures that failed to pass earlier this year and show no new momentum in the wake of last week's rampage at a military installation just blocks from the Capitol.
Earlier this weekend, he spoke at a Congressional Black Caucus Foundation dinner and blamed the recent shooting in Chicago on the easy availability of guns:
"We fought a good fight earlier this year, but we came up short and that means we've got to get back up and go back at it because as long as there are those who fight to make it as easy as possible for dangerous people to get their hands on a gun, then we've got to work as hard as possible for the sake of our children. We've got to be ones who are willing to do more work to make it harder."

Sub-title of Emily Miller's new book says it all.

He's going to find it quite a bit harder to get votes for more restrictions after those Colorado legislators got recalled. I don't see this going anywhere.
Lets also remember those failures of the criminal justice system in this tradgedy as well.
Had he been prosecuted in either of the firearm charges brought against the shooter, the shooter would have been.
1) A prohibited person
2) Not eligible for the security clearance that gave him access to the venue.
More gun laws aren't the answer, Mr. President. Enforcing the ones we have and prosecuting them are.

If President Obama cannot uphold the Constitution and enforce the laws we already have on the books, then he should resign. Vice President will then....
Oh bother! Never mind.
