Everything That's Wrong In A Nutshell...

AwelowyNT sent me this story, citing that my blood pressure might be too low...

Tales of the Red Tape #42: Peeling Back Nonsense in Vehicle Regulation
General Motors Corp. (GM) is recalling 18,941 Chevy Camaros (model years 2013 and 2014) for violating Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 208—Occupant Crash Protection.

Defective seat belts? Air bag malfunction? Brake failure?

Nope.

GM is recalling 18,941 Chevy Camaros because the air bag warning label on the sun visor may peel.
You really can't make this stuff up, people. Nearly 19,000 cars are being recalled because a warning label might peel off a visor. Now, mind you, there's nothing that the sticker actually *does* - the airbags are still dangerous, and we've known about these dangers for more than 20 years. If you don't know that you shouldn't put an infant in the front seat of a car by now, a warning label on the visor isn't going to change anything...

Here's the kicker. They're sending out recall letters. $. They're carving out technician time for each car that comes in. $$. And then, rather than re-apply the warning label? They're throwing away the visor and installing a new one. What simpering pinhead came up with this solution? Rather than invest $0.20 in a new adhesive for the existing label, they're replacing nearly 19,000 visors???

You can tell GM is still owned by the .gov - only the Federal government could come up with a "solution" that's needlessly wasteful, grossly inefficient, and about as effective as a cheesecloth prophylactic...

That is all.

I'm saving that one.

Yup.

Regulations like this are why we're headed down hill in a hurry.

I tried for a while to peel off that warning label on my visor, but they stuck it on too damn well....
