After years on the sidelines, New York's liberals retaking control
With Bill de Blasio taking office as mayor in January, New York City appears poised for a resurgence of liberal policies.Right. Because, you see, for the past 20 years, New York has been a bastion of right wing policies, you see. Oh, those radical right wingers, Rudy Giuliani and Michael Bloomberg! What a rabid couple of hardcore financial and social conservatives those two were. You know, when the GOP stopped going to Bob Jones University for the rightwing bonafides and went to NYC instead, that should have been the first indication...
After 20 years of Republican leadership, not only will America's largest city have the most liberal mayor in a generation, helping him implement change will be a progressive-leaning City Council and a longtime liberal ally in the new public advocate.
I mean, does *anyone* stop to think, here? Did anyone look at that headline and think, "gee, you know, perhaps we ought to get our heads out of our asses and change that headline?" Just because the mayor of NYC was - in the case of Giuliani - an alleged Republican or a very temporary one like Bloomberg (seriously, he was a "Republican" for, what, 20 minutes after winning the election), did no one stop to think about the unspoken allegation that they were making?
You know, the one that stated that for the past 20 years, New York City has been a bastion of conservatism?
That is all.

I think the word you are looking for is authoritarianism.
That's too hard to spell. I'm thinking of a different word that begins with "a" and ends with "holes."
All the bad stuff of the John Lindsay administration PLUS all the bad stuff of London's Red Ken. What could possibly go wrong?
I keep seeing Kurt Russel wearing an eye-patch. And that's a best case scenario.
