PETA requests 10-foot-high roadside memorial for chickens killed in accident
Oh, the humanity poultry! Last month, a tractor trailer carrying an indeterminate number of live chickens overturned on a highway outside Athens, Ga. According to reports at the time, there were no injuries — meaning human injuries. All the chickens perished. Now, I see what they're getting at here, if you look beyond the sheer WTFery. Eventually, PETA's going to have one of these requests granted, and they'll get their sign. It will be another step towards their perfect world of no processed food, because that's what they're really getting at here.
To underscore that their deaths were not in vain, the watchdog group, PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), has asked the Georgia Department of Transportation to erect a 10-foot-high roadside memorial.
It does make you wonder, doesn't it, what exactly PETA's grand end goal is here. They have campaigned long and hard against keeping animals for food - do they really want a return to the hunter-gatherer stage of man? Because that's what will happen when you stop tending food animals. One of the very first hallmarks of civilization was realizing that we could herd our food into one spot and keep it there; good luck undoing several millennia of human history.
Of course, the sun will most likely burn out before the deaths of freakin' chickens merits more than a passing "so, when's the BBQ"...
That is all.

If I owned a BBQ restaurant near there, I would erect a monument for PETA... offering free kids meals on Tuesdays and a free side of coleslaw with every rotisserie chicken.
I can understand why some would think this was a poultry request after all if the monument wasn't too extravagant they could easily justify the chicken scratch of some plywood and 4 bys it'd take to fund and give in.
However, hopefully, the officials will not give into this request and thus run a fowl of watchdog groups trying to reign in wasteful government spending.
After all we've seen time and time again in recent years the results of such actions when motivated voters get out there and the chickens come home to roost for the elected officials.
......I am so so sorry
OH! Sell the space to Chik-fil-A!
Their stated goal is the elimination of all domesticated animal as they are "UN-natural". Chickens, cows, and even domestic cats and dogs. They want them all sterilized so they will not exist in one generation.
They kind of hide this fact from pet lovers because they are a source of funding.
In their ideal world, we are all vegans who grow our own food and use nothing but "sustainable" energy sources (except for nuclear and hydro. Because hydro dams are mean to fish). And in their ideal world, they and the people who run the "fair trade" boutiques they shop at are the only people left on Earth.

I'm in! I propose life size statue of Col. Harlan Sanders hanging his head.
Below it would be inscribed.
"WHAT A WASTE OF GOOD CHICKENS"
Gerry
And now I have John Anderson's song Chicken Truck playing on a loop in my head....
Found the right sign.

If they want to put up memorials to dead chickens, they'd have to put up one the size of Chriet of the Andes to commerate all the dead fowl that have passed thru the local hot wings shack.
wildbill, who's heading out for wings
The proper response would be for GDOT to apologize and say that there already IS a monument to dead chickens in Marietta, GA, and that monument is approximately 6 times as large.
KFC makes LOTS of dead chickens.

When will they put up a memorial for all the dogs that they euthanizes and dumped?
The memorial should be a stick in the ground with an upended KFC bucket mounted on the stick, to symbolize unrealized potential.
Cargosquid beat me to it.
I think they are just pissed because they aren't the ones who did the killing.
Barbecue-grill with eternal flame?
