Driven By Bacon
We built the world's first bacon fueled motorcycle. Because we are #DrivenByBacon. They built a motorcycle.
With a diesel engine.
That runs on bacon grease.
(bonus points if you heard that as "You built a time machine? Out of a DeLorean?")
It's a good lookin' bike, too:
Why can't I get this out of my head:
Diesel motorcycle. Whatever will they think of next? Apparently they've been around for about a decade now, so it's not brand new, but pretty recent. If I were a betting man, I'd say that motorcycles are generally so good on gas that the ROI on a diesel engine isn't great enough to warrant much investment.
Although I do really like their graphic on how the bike is fueled...
That is all.

I was interested in a diesel bike mainly to get more range out of a tank of fuel. I understand the U.S. military was developing diesel bikes because motorcycles were the last vehicle in their fleet that used gasoline, and it would have simplified their supply chain to make them run on the same fuel everything else uses.
Actually, the Royal Enfield has been in production in India since the '80s with an aircooled diesel engine, with a stunning 6.5hp. It was on sale in England and Canada back in the '80s, though I don't think they sold any.

Poking around on that site I found this:

Yep...I'm pretty sure I want one.
Imagine the packs of dogs chasing you down the street every time you went for a ride? Probably some drunk college kids and a few bloggers as well.
The horror....

Does Tam know about the bacon-bike yet? If not, I'm pretty sure she'd WANT to know about it...
Re. the ROI factor, think about petrol and diesel at US$8.75 per US gallon - that's what we are paying in the the UK.
I for one would be delighted with a bike that achieved 100+mpg while still giving performance similar to my 1986 BMW K100RT (50mpg at best).
I can well imagine a diesel of that size turning over at 2000rpm or less at 70+mph in a tall top gear - very relaxing, and no high frequency vibes to numb various body parts!
