Friday Gun Pr0n #38

Here's a little something, literally:

This is a Colt Junior, a pocket gun chambered in the anemic .25 ACP caliber. It's more of a curiosity than anything else, as the Kel-Tec P3AT weighs less, is chambered in the more powerful .380 ACP caliber, and only holds one round less.

But it works well, and it *is* a Colt, after all... :)

That is all.

OK Jay, I'm starting right in. You need to be MUCH closer to the gun for the photo. You need to be using some light source besides the flash on the camera. Side lighting and a silver card or foil reflector, or even a sheet of computer paper will work on the other side. I'd also put something- a bottle cap, tape roll, thread spool, et, under the gun to suspend it over the background, but we don't want to see the shadow of the spool on the background.
You might include a holster, keys and change- something to give a little scale as well.
No camera movement either. Use enough light.

Oleg? Is that you? :)

Seriously, I do appreciate the tips. This is an earlier picture that I already had on Photobucket that I could put up quickly.

Ideally I'd like to build a white box for better pictures, but that would involve me not being so fucking lazy... ;)

...And the background is uninspiring. Get off the felt or sheetrock or whatever and get some wood, dirt, metal, granite or something in there. It's easy.

I notice your photo, the banner photo and this photo all use direct on the camera flash. Lets start channelling Oleg Volk. You even cut the muzzle off the banner gun. How would you feel if YOUR muzzle was cut off? Your gun photos need a little love.

Perhaps you have a girlfriend, or any cute woman around that could hold the gun? Think Kit. Think Tam. Still needs a reflector, side lighting and a nice background.

I'm with you, white boxes too much trouble. Just lay this baby on a dark wool coat near a tungsten lamp and take ONE sheet of white computer paper and move it around, (pretty close) on the side away from the light. Just watch the reflections and the light. It's pretty easy. I fake my way through a whole calendar of gun photos for the TSRA once a year and most of them are one light source and a reflector.

Don't tell Oleg that I am revealing gun photo secrets! It could get ugly for me.

And it's not just you. Uncle? His gun photos suck. Jeff at Alphecca? Crying for intervention. Publicoloa's precious Garand banner? Pul-eeze!

Free those gun photos!

This sounds like a future Youtube post! How to photograph your shooting iron and plastic.

Sheetrock? That's my carpet!

Hey, I never claimed to be a photographer or anything, just a guy who's a firearms enthusiast... ;)

As far as a model, all I have is an anti-gun wife, which is part of the reason for the crappy pictures - a lot of them are taken in haste, because I don't want to get grief from her for having my guns lying around... ;)

In all seriousness, I really do appreciate the tips. I'll try to incorporate some of them in the next round of picture shoots.

That's part of the reason for the crappy pictures - a lot of these were taken many years ago with an oooold Kodak digital camera (like first or second generation). I'm starting to run out of material, so it's time to break open the gun safes and take new pictures.

Get ready for LOTS more shotguns. :)

Leave it to me to insult a mans sheetrock when I am looking at CARPET. I need to get up to speed.

Just because she is anti-gun doesn't mean she can't be a hand model. Maybe she can be convinced it's a martini!

Can't wait to see the shotguns....that's a pretty good arm you are holding in your signature photo.

I'm really going to do a youtube "how-to" on this. I'll send you a link.

I have a Colt 1908. Its essentially the same gun just with a Euro-style mag release, and is striker fired. .25 ACP is too damn expensive, and good-for-nothing. So my Pocket Colt is a bit of a safe-queen, but I love it to death. It IS a JM Browning Gun!
