For Breda...

Who asked, in comments to this post:

do you play Barbies with BabyGirlG after lunch then?
Nope. No Barbies. She's not into Barbie yet (thank Gaia).

She does, however, do tea parties:

My Little Pony tea parties, to be exact.

(And yes, that's my cup of "tea" on top of Shotgun News...)

That is all.

It's a good thing you love them. Otherwise, stuff like that would be intolerable.

You can't beat a teaparty with your little girls. I had many of them.

I think that a man with a daughter has a much greater understanding of women.

Your natural instinct is to feel like you have to protect them but you soon learn that they are more than able to protect themselves.

I love every second of it, T-bolt. Every second. I know that in the blink of an eye she'll be a surly teenager who won't want to be in the same time zone as her dumb ol' dad...

Buck,

I'm inclined to agree. I can see the little manipulations women use in their infancy in my daughter.

And I may joke about Daddy's Littler Girl and having the shotgun handy for the boys she brings home, but she'll be fine on her own. Remember, this is the girl who I firmly believe isn't going to break hearts, but legs...

JD,

IMHO, it enhances the tough guy image, because we're secure enough in our manhood to be girly.

'Course, if'n someone really wants to impugn my masculinity, I'd like to see them do it to my face.

...

...because then I could make them a nice quiche, with a lovely cheddar fondue on the side and a frozen mudslide to drink...

:)

A. So, how many different types of play ponies does your daughter own? I think mine's around 20 or so.

B. Once again, we find another similarity: We have the same floor covering in my master bathroom, buddy. You can see it in the p90x photos that I linked in an earlier post (would be too gratuitous to post shirtless pics on numerous occasions). :)

If you'll recall what I do for a living, you'll chuckle when considering why I was able to point out the similar flooring.....heh.

C. Every second gets better. Right now I'm considering going back to my old site & posting a bunch of kids stuff, including my daughter's penchant for getting my digital camera and filming 'commercials' of herself talking about....whatever. You know those commercials on the Disney channel where it'll start out "hi, I'm so-and-so and I'm going to take you behind the scenes on the set of Zack & Cody" or whatever? Well, every month or so I'll go to download my digital pics and I'll come across a movie that starts out "Hi, this is Julia, and now......." Too great for words. The last one had her in the playroom dancing. Nothing like seeing your little girl shaking her hips to Wild Cherry's "Play that funky music White Boy" and giving a little attitude w/some lip syncing at the end.

Life.
Cannot.
Get.
Better.

Oh, dear. That is unbearably cute.

(And don't worry, JayG, as surly as teenage girls get, and even if they hide it, they always, always love their daddies. You'll always be her hero.)

and I see you got the blue teacup. ;)

Breda

I hope you are right. . .My oldest is going to be 13 this year. . . she is starting to get to the "DAD YOUR EMBARRASSING ME" phase.

Of course I figure when I hear that I know I am doing something right = )

rw,

Let's see... By my meager calculations, she has approximately 6,000,000 ponies and pony-related items... ;)

That's too funny about the floor, especially because we have a very similar pattern in our bathrooms...

My son's the one that's going to be heading off to Hollywood, at least if the way he carries on when we tell him to go to bed is any indication... ;)

breda,

Believe me, that (being her hero) is never far from my mind. I am more than aware that her interactions with me will shape her future interactions with men. I am trying like hell to make her as strong and well-rounded as possible - it means I have less bodies to hide that way... ;)

JD,

Bingo. I know I'm doing something right when my son says, "But Daaaaaaad, all my friends are doing X".

I remind him that none of his friends have me for a dad...
