Urge to Kill Rising...

Note to Norton: You suck. I hate you. I will not brake if I see you crossing the street.

Could you please possibly make your products MORE of a HUGE FUCKING PAIN IN THE ASS? Seriously? Like, maybe you could make it so that the only update options are "REMIND ME EVERY FIVE FUCKING SECONDS" or "FREEZE YOUR COMPUTER THE REST OF THE NIGHT"

Oh, wait, that's what you already do...

And then, as a coup de grace, maybe you could design it so the uninstall feature takes about as long as painting the goddamned Sistine Chapel. That would be so very user friendly.

In short, die motherfucker, die.

That is all.

Funny. I have the same feelings toward the McAfee a/v software we use at work.

I like the new header a lot.

I think spraying my computer with "Brut" would be more effective against Spam and Viruses than McAfee.

Well, you could try a Mac, but then your friends would think you were an elitist, or a sissy or something awful, because you weren't spending all your time wrestling with PC problems.

Agreed Jay! I've had it too! I just bought a Mac the other day because I'm tired of the crap with Microsoft and McAfee. Three major crashes in four months. both pointed the finger at the other... sigh...

You're using the wrong version of Norton. You really should be using Symantec Endpoint Protection. I never had a problem with it.

Peter Norton sold out and retired a long time ago.

I bet he uses AVG at home.

get avast and spybot and swear off paid programs forever...

AVG FTW.

I sympathize, Jay. I had a similar experience with Norton 2001. Before -- I liked Norton. After -- I've never used another Norton product.

Symantec's code is made of fail. Not just this, either.

Let me know if you want me to set uou up with Linux. You'll lose games and iTunes, but you'll have better everything else.

Oh, and I think that Linux now has an Open Source bayonet lug. Well, it's what I heard ...

Jay,
Dump Norton faster than Eric Holder proposes new AWBs and get yourself AVG version 8 from Grisoft. FOUR HUNDRED machines at my office don't lie. Apologies for the Eric Holder reference . . . I couldn't resist the 'dig'.

Heh. This appears to have struck a nerve or two... ;)

Gator - I made the mistake of purchasing McAfee back for the old computer (it was $5 at BJs) and then realized that it was incompatible with, oh, EVERY OTHER PIECE OF SOFTWARE on the computer...

Brigid - I like the header, too... :)

libertyman, I can't disparage Macs too much, because then sci-fi will stop in to revive the Mac-vs-PC wars we used to wage many years ago... ;)

Old NFO - the problem with Macs, other than price and lack of software, is that I've got all Windows-based *stuff* going back some 15 years. Status quo and all that.

Plus I don't want to have to teach Mrs. G. a new OS - hence why I won't do Linux...

OrangeNeckinNY - It's the Norton that came with the laptop. It had a 60 day trial period, which expired some time ago, and it tied up everything with a pointless "update" so badly that I ripped it right off the machine...

TJP - heh. I hear Bill Gates runs Linux, too...

Chris - I actually did get Avast based on my Cheap Bastard bleg earlier this week.

Bunnyman - I was trying to decide between AVG and Avast, and chose Avast as something new. I've used AVG on my old XP machine, and while it's been decent, it's had some glitches...

wolfwalker - like I said, it came with the laptop. I finally got off my lazy ass and replaced it...

Ted - Linux ain't gonna happen. Too steep a learning curve for the Mrs. And heh - bayo lug open source... FTW!

Brad - See comment to Bunnyman. Went with Avast; AVG's good but I've had a couple issues with it. Figure I'll give Avast a shot and can always switch later if needed...

As OrangeNeck has suggested, try getting a hold of Symantec Endpoint Client.

If you know someone in the military, they can get it for you, free of charge. Tell them to go to their service's member portal (AKO for the Army, AF Portal for the AF; not sure what the Navy and Marines use). The military provides its members with antivirus programs because it's understood that some members will take paperwork home and finish it there; all the security precautions at work are for naught if a member's bringing in infected files from home.
