WANT! WANT! WANT!!!

Have you ever come across something that, at first blush, you thought was kinda silly? Then, the more you thought about it; the more it percolated in your brain, you starting coming around?

Well, I did that on this:

Yes, that *is* exactly what you think it is - the TAC-15 Tactical Crossbow. It's based on the AR-15, costs about what a standard AR variant costs, and is completely and utterly impractical.

Needless today, I want one so badly that I think I'm gonna sell some plasma...

That is all.

Thanks to reader and commenter Sara for sending me the link in an e-mail!

Pistol grip, check.
Collapsable shoulder stock, check.
Bayonette lug?
Flash suppressor?
Grenade Launcher?

Is this MA legal?

Ah, but you missed the most important part - it's not semi-automatic.

Actually, the most important part would be that it's not a firearm at all...

I only want it if it has a magazine that holds 30 bolts.

"it's not a firearm"

Err... it uses a normal AR lower, so it would have a serialized part--a firearm under federal law. State laws might vary as to whether or not carrying one hunting would run afoul of the "no firearms while bowhunting" laws that some states have. (like mine--but VA makes exceptions for concealed carry permit holders)

Still, if I had that much spare coin lying around, it'd be pretty cool to go bowhunting (VA basically treats crossbows as normal bows) with one of my AR lowers.

Jay, it actually does have some practical purpose. When Zombies are roaming the earth it makes good tactical sense to have a 'silent' weapon.

I strongly recommend that you purchase one.

Oh, I'm gonna get one.

I want to get back into bow hunting, and since crossbows are legal during Louisiana's archery season now, I can have this probably cheaper than I could purchase and tune a new compound bow.

With a great deal more range, accuracy and power, to boot.

And dude. You could hunt deer with that. In town. How sweet is that?

Ohhh, Ricky likes! Not sure what I'd use it for, but that would definitely be something different from all the 5.56 ARs out there.

Eh, scratch that. For $1299, they're out of their freaking minds.

Now, for $800 or less, I'd be tempted.

as far as bows go this thing is actually spectacularly powerful they list it as
Kinetic Energy: 160 - 152 ft-lbs (425 grain bolt)
IBO Speed: 412 - 402 fps

for comparison their most powerful compound bow is
IBO Speed: 366-358 fps
which is about as high as you will find in a compound

I don't know much about crossbows though so I don't know, but I expect that would be about average for the price

In North Carolina you still need a Pistol Purchase Permit from the local sheriff to buy a CROSSBOW!

The Pistol Purchase Permit was a legacy of racist Jim Crow laws but damned if I know why you need one to buy a crossbow.

If you want a crossbow, get a Barnett Commando. It'll have to be used (seems they don't make 'em anymore), but the whole "self cocking" thing is VERY nice...

I've seen then a few times at gunshows for @ $300-400

Saw that a while back...

I think it's great. Now just add a bolt-action upper, and then....finally a flintlock muzzleloading upper. And you'll have a rifle that you can use for all seasons of hunting.

The price tag is ridiculous if you already own the EBR, but if you'd have to buy the AR lower as well (like me), that's a $2000 toy. Ouch.
