Dead Goblin... With a Twist!

It's been around the blogosphere already, but enough folks have alerted me to this story - and it's subsequent lack of exposure in our "traditional media" (ahem) - that it needs to be added to the list:

College Student Shoots, Kills Home Invader
COLLEGE PARK, Ga. -- A group of college students said they are lucky to be alive and they’re thanking the quick-thinking of one of their own. Police said a fellow student shot and killed one of two masked me who burst into an apartment.

Channel 2 Action News reporter Tom Jones met with one of the students to talk about the incident.

“Apparently, his intent was to rape and murder us all,” said student Charles Bailey.

Yes, you read that headline correctly. Despite what the media and opponents of CCW on campus would have you believe, this one particular college student did not, in fact, have one too many beers at a keg party and start randomly shooting his friends for fun. He did not use his weapon to force himself on an unwilling co-ed. He did use his weapon to protect himself and his friends from armed invaders hell-bent on causing mayhem, destruction, and death.

And killed one of the little choirboys in the process.

Choirboys who were "counting their bullets". Wrap your mind around that, and ask yourself just what they had planned. I suspect they were not concerned about the high price of ammunition these days, nor the scarcity of 9mm ammo in the Winchester White Box... No, this young man's quick thinking and bravery prevented exactly the kind of massacre we're used to seeing on college campuses whenever the word "gun" is used with "school" - armed psychopaths, knowing they have a gun-free (read: target-rich) environment, start taking lives with abandon.

Except this time, the intended victims were off-campus; not only that, but off-campus in GA, meaning they were armed and ready to shoot.

Excellent shooting under intense pressure. A pity it couldn't have been a two-fer (would be a MArooned DGC first!), but any time we can add a Dead Goblin to the pile is a happy time. If anyone wants me, I'll be doing the Dead Goblin Dance out in the backyard. Those groundhogs have been getting pretty brazen, it's time to terrify them back into their holes.

Dead Goblin Count: 15

That is all.

Special thanks to readers "another Jay" and "D.E." for sending me this story. Also to Bruce who caught it well before I did and was kind enough to e-mail me so it could make the tally.

You could start running a DGC in the sidebar (goblin faces x'd out).

One less perp to take up air space in the pen.

Somebody (I forget who) was pointing out that most defensive gun use stories are VERY non-sexy news-wise. They don't have any bloodshed, only minor violence, and often leave the true motive of the villian up to speculation (Did he just want the cash in the register, or did he want to kill everybody in the store?)

Meanwhile THIS story, the Men and Women were seperated, there was an attempted rape with strong suggestions that it was to be the first of many, and there appeared to be the makings of a mass execution.

Goes DOUBLE that this was just a young college student and not a Marine Iraq vet, or an offduty cop, or a crotchity old Man (you know the ones the media EXPECTS to have all the guns) makes it an even BIGGER news story.

Even better if the media wanted to sell ads they could run it as an alternative to the mass-shootings (that haven't been happening recently).

So all the honest explanations on why pro-self-defense stories get buried fail on this.

PURE AGENDA!

Nice story, glad to hear it! Here's hoping the young man who had to pull the trigger doesn't live the rest of his life regretting what he had to do.

The media weasels would love to have him painted as a guy just waiting to bust a cap in someone so he could get the thrill of murder wiithout the jailtime. Morons.

Good for this young man saving the day. He should be given a new firearm, and a couple cases of ammo in return for what he did.

it is good to have a gun as long as it is licensed. it is a benefit to have a gun as long as you are emotionally and mentally matured.

agg79,

Heh. Even I'm not that bloodthirsty.

Well, wait, maybe I am...

(Actually, a single line stating the count isn't a bad idea, now that you mention it...)

Weer'd,

I'm not so certain this wuold have been much of a story had that young man not been armed.

Remind me how much media time the animals in IN got - the black youths that raped, sodomized, and murdered the four white kids?

I think given the cowardice normally afforded the MSDS would have buried this story regardless.

In fact, I'm surprised that they're not playing the ZOMG RACIST!!!111 angle all that much - although that would mean publicizing what happened...

Rick,

See above. I think the media would have to acknowledge the role the firearm played in order to make anything of this story.

I think the "counted their bullets" and that the kids were segregated by gender really tells you all you need to know. They weren't about to play Twister. They were going to rape the girls then murder everyone in the apartment.

And a firearm prevented that. Not a cop, not any representative from the government, but a private citizen with their personal firearm.

They HATE that. They would rather there be a half-dozen murdered kids than admit that guns have their place in our society.

longislandgirl,

I don't think registering the firearms has any impact whatsoever. It doesn't make a lick of difference who the government thinks owns the gun when it comes to preventing crime; only in possibly helping nail a criminal after the crime has been committed.

The danger that registration poses - confiscation - is simply too great for the miniscule amount of good (ID'ing criminals after).

I do agree that owning a firearm takes a certain level of knowledge and maturity, though.

How many people there were white?

All the faces I've seen on the limeted news coverage were black.

Certainly this wasn't racially motivated (like that horrible case you mentioned that DID in fact get buried)

Weer'd,

I dunno. I've only seen the perps' pictures. Guess I'm guilty of assuming...

And it was TN, not IN, where that happened - it was a white couple brutally murdered by five black men (link).

I only saw a picture of the DEAD perp. Haven't heard if they caught the live one (Exibit A will be some underoos with a big loaf in 'em Fo Sho!)

and one of the victims who agreed to be interviewed. Both were Persons of Color.

Dunno about the rest, don't care. This should be on the front page of every paper and Oprah and the Today Show should be pounding on the Hero's door for a feel-good story interview.

Of course it won't happen.

Long Island Girl,

As a Jew with ancestors who barely escaped the horror of Nazi Germany and earlier ancestors who escaped the Pogroms of early 20th century Eastern Europe, I am mortified that you suggest registration would have been of any benefit. Allow me to give you a history lesson.

Many world leaders, both past and present, know that a disarmed populace is an easy populace to conquer & control. The Roman emperors knew this. Ghengis Khan knew this. So did Pol Pot, Stalin, & Hitler. Let me offer you a quote from Hitler.

"The most foolish mistake we could possibly make would be to allow the subject races to possess arms. History shows that all conquerors who have allowed their subject races to carry arms have prepared their own downfall by so doing."During the inter-war years of the early 20th century, the German Weimar republic ordered & instituted mandatory registration of all firearm types, for all German citizens. On November 11, 1938, the day after Kristalnacht, the German Minister of the Interior put into place laws to confiscate all firearms owned by German Jews. How was this done? Simple, with the firearms registration rolls created during the Weimar years.

Bottom line -- registration is the first step towards confiscation. Registration has been, and always will be about keeping tabs on the masses who cannot be trusted by the ruling class. Period. Registration of firearms should never be allowed, in any form, under any circumstances, in a truly free society.

As a New Yorker, I ask that you look no further than your own shameful senator, Charles Schumer & Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy. Sen. Schumer has never met a gun control scheme he didn't like. Carolyn McCarty, after the shooting death of her husband on the Long Island Railway, sought to ban every type of firearm under the sun. In a famous interview with Tucker Carlson, it was clearly revealed that Ms. McCarthy was pushing a ban she didn't understand. When asked to define a barrel shroud, her answer was closer to that of a folding stock. Both politicians are in favor of highly restrictive gun control measures. But FBI crime stats studied across the entire US for a period of 15 years show clearly that as gun control laws are loosened or eliminated, violent crime goes down. Get yourself a copy of John Lott's book, More Guns, Less Crime. I ask you keep an open mind, but please, read & learn.

No amount of gun control laws, especially registration, will do one lick to reduce crime. It will only serve to disarm a populace interested in protecting life & proper -- a natural right given to every living soul by his/her creator of choice.

I know this diatribe is a bit long winded, but again, I implore you -- New York Girl -- READ and UNDERSTAND world history.

Jay, apologies for co-opting your post.

- Brad

Weer'd, late breaking news!

He was indeed a Marine vet that did the deed. AND... he's being recognized for it.
