Friday Gun Pr0n #115

Today's gun pic is another in my "Rimfire Rifle" series:

Sears Model 25

This is a Sears Model 25 semi-automatic, tubular magazine-fed .22LR rifle (it'll accept .22 short and .22 long as well, actually; this is somewhat rare with semi-automatic .22LR rifles). It was manufactured by Hi-Standard to be sold under the Sears brand, as was common before society went all batshit insane about attaching value judgements to inanimate objects and guns became evil...

This one's in pretty good shape; other than some dings in the stock it's in excellent shape. Functionally it works very well, especially since it hasn't been cleaned since Clinton was in office. It's got a 15 round magazine, and will put all of those rounds in a 3" circle at 25 feet firing as fast as it will go. While I don't recommend .22LR as a self-defense round, 15 rounds of .22LR put center mass in a few seconds' time will put a dent in any goblin's murderous plans...

She's not pretty, but she'll get the job done. Like pretty much all of the guns in the G. armory...

That is all.

I've got a 16 ga shotgun from Sears. Bolt action, no less! It was the gun Dad used when he and went "deer hunting" in NH. (It was really nothing more than a father/son walk in the woods) I'd carry a little pump action .22. That gun has become lost. I miss it.

I took the 16 ga out to the back levee recently. I had a ball shoooting oranges out of the trees back there.

I need to go confirm it, but I have a .22 bolt action that you can set the sights up several different ways. Open sights, several sizes of rings, and a mount for a scope. I think its a Sears also. That was back in the day when guns were tools and shooring was an honorable father/son activity.

Hey P.E.,

Guns are still tools, and shooting is still an honorable father/son activity. The fact that some people have lost their minds doesn't change objective reality.

MArooned,

Good post, lots of good memories in old guns. I'm going to have write about one today.

Jay, nice find. Do you know what model Hi-Standard it is? is it 15 rounds of 22LR & like 20 rounds of 22 short?

I have a Sears "Ted Williams" 12ga that gets out once in a while.

I have a single shot sears gun that was manufactured by marlin. it was owned by my grandads friend, Frank Smith, who in the late 40's and early 50's who was the relief pitcher for the Cincinnati reds (Or red-legs because that was when the cold war was starting) When frank passed away me and my grandad had to help his wife repair a dishwasher. after we got done she gave me his old .22 rifle. That rifle will never leave my armory.

There is very little on God's green earth that Sears, Roebuck did not market at one time or another--including cars, motorcycles, and complete houses! I've been to their old warehouse complex at Homes and Arthington (HomArt, remember?), and they really did have everything. It was served by the Manufacturers' Junction Railroad ("The Old Mary Jane"). Which they owned, and sold.

I have a Sears single/bolt "boy's rifle," $25 estate sale, which is pretty clearly a Winchester 67A. We use it for beginning shooters, then move them "up" to an ex-BSA Mossberg. It's reliable; consider that damned by faint praise, since it's not MOA at 50 feet.

Nice rifle :) I dig the "store brand" guns. Western Field, JC Higgins, Ted Williams... they can all be cool and good buys to boot.

I SO have to get another 22 rifle.

My Daughter absconded with my Wife's Marlin 60 when she set up housekeeping with her new husband and we've never replaced it.

I've been dropping hints (blatantly begging) for another Marlin or maybe a Ruger 10/22 as a Father's Day or Birthday gift - so we'll see.

A SA .22LR rifle has probably been one of my best gun purchases. I got mine (a Marlin Model 60) used from a shooter friend for a decent price, and boy do new shooters like it.

My latest new shooter absolutely loved it, and I had her put a mag full (17 or 18 rounds, depending on whether or not you start loading with the bolt closed) at a dirty bird target at 10yd at the end of our session, and she got all of them in the 9 ring - in fact all but one in the 10 ring. Marlin has the micro-grooving going on with their rimfire guns, which makes them superbly accurate. It's ever so satisfying to set up a target, rapid fire a mag full of rounds, and see a big ragged hole at the center of your target.

Nice rifle you've got there.
